Stephen Hamilton

Stephen Hamilton is a director, producer, actor, arts administrator, educator, and acting coach. In 1991, he co-founded Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor, New York, with his wife, Emma Walton Hamilton, and Sybil Christopher. During his 17 years as the theatre's Executive Director, Hamilton oversaw more than 50 productions.

Among the productions presented during his tenure were Jon Robin Baitz's adaptation of Hedda Gabler, which earned Kate Burton a Tony nomination, and Sandy Wilson's The Boy Friend, which marked Julie Andrews' directorial debut and later toured nationally. Bay Street also presented new works by artists including Baitz, Paula Vogel, Lanford Wilson, Cynthia Ozick, Terrence McNally, Marsha Norman, Chris Durang, Rick Dresser, and Diane Paulus, with performers including Cherry Jones, Alan Alda, Diane Wiest, Richard Dreyfuss, Mercedes Ruehl, and Twiggy.

Hamilton's directing credits include Arthur Miller's All My Sons, starring Alec Baldwin and Laurie Metcalf, at the John Drew Theatre; the world premiere of Ira Lewis' Gross Points, also starring Baldwin, at Bay Street Theatre; and the American premiere of Ben Woolf's Angry Young Man at Urban Stages in New York City.
