BIO

Robert Axelrod is a writer based in Los Angeles, originally hailing from Michigan, whose work explores the intersectionality of identity and culture.

Robert is a member of the most recent Warner Bros. Discovery Access Writers Program and The Road Theatre Company's Under Construction Playwriting Group.

Previously, Robert was awarded the Humanitas New Voices fellowship, CineStory TV fellowship, and was part of the inaugural class of the Jewish Writer Initiative’s Digital Storyteller Lab. Elsewhere, Robert was one of the winners of Roadmap Writers' Podcast Competition, and in 2020, Robert was recognized as a winner of the A-List; an annual competition honoring the best work by assistants in the entertainment industry.

As a playwright, Robert was one of the winners of the Echo Theater Company’s inaugural playwriting competition and previously won the ScreenCraft Stage Play Competition. His work has been presented as part of the IAMA Theatre Company’s New Works Festival, the Road Theatre Company’s Summer Playwrights Festival, and the Syracuse New Playwrights Festival. Robert was a recent finalist for the Eugene O'Neill National Playwrights Conference, the Blue Ink Award for Playwriting, and the Orchard Project Performance Lab, and was a recent semifinalist for the Bay Street Theatre's Title Wave New Works Festival and the Terrence McNally New Works Incubator.

In addition to his professional and creative pursuits, Robert has been a volunteer crisis service counselor with The Trevor Project, the nation’s leading suicide prevention and crisis intervention service for LGBTQ youth.

The Group Rep Seeks Submissions for Second Annual SHORT NEW PLAYS FESTIVAL

The Group Rep Second Annual SHORT NEW PLAYS FESTIVALThe Group Rep announces its Second Annual SHORT NEW PLAYS FESTIVAL to be held early 2018.  Playwrights with short plays 5 to 15 minutes in length, have two to five characters, can be produced with simple furniture and props, and can be staged in a black box environment are invited to submit.  Plays chosen will receive 6 performances over a two week period with a possible six week extension.
