He received the 1989 Kennedy Center Honors, and in 1990, he was awarded the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Male Newcomer. Baryshnikov has also earned the Dance Magazine Award in 1990, and in 1991, he was honored with the Golden Plate Award by the American Academy of Achievement. He has received two Tony Awards: one for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his performance in the 1974 production of The King and I, and another for Best Actor in a Musical for his role in the 1989 production of The Nutcracker. Additionally, Baryshnikov was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for his performance in the television special "Baryshnikov on Broadway."
