by E.H. Reiter - May 24, 2018

When you think of a play that features rap, you may be expecting a clash of over the top personalities, some witty revisionist history, or at the very least some fireworks.  Well, THE WIND AND THE BREEZE now playing at The Cygnet Theatre does offer some fireworks, but it mostly eschews the rest of the obvious assumptions and instead settles on a quiet, funny, and contemplative play about the choices we make and the roads it leads us down. BWW Review: IN THE HEIGHTS Brings the Joy of Love and Family Traditions to Energetic Life on the Streets of Washington Heights
by Shari Barrett - May 11, 2016

Much like the much-loved musical "Fiddler on the Roof," IN THE HEIGHTS focuses on family love and traditions being challenged by the beliefs of the next generation. In our modern world where a good education can make all the difference, what does it take for a poor family to put a cherished only child through an expensive university? And what happens when the student cannot keep up and drops out and gets romantically involved with someone her parents don't think is good enough? And what happens when a neighborhood is challenged by urban renewal and its flavor is about to be lost? Can it be saved when local shop owners must leave their beloved neighborhood when rents rise? A.J. Croce with Robbie Fulks Comes to NYC to Celebrate Album Release
by BWW News Desk - Jul 12, 2017

Some artists are afforded the chance to tell their personal stories as they see fit, at a particular moment when they know the time has come. But for many, there is no choice -the story emerges hardwired to the music and they become forever identified with it no matter how their story may evolve or change. A.J. Croce has been inextricably linked to a version of his own story by virtue of his name. He's experienced a lifetime of comparisons to a father he lost at age two, whose music bares little resemblance to his own output yet still serves as a reference point despite the years that have passed and the many iconic mentors who have stepped in to offer their counsel, creativity, and endorsement throughout his long career. There is so much heart in this large Cast that it just spills out everywhere on stage all the way to the back of the house.
