Lyndsey Turner BIO

Lyndsey Turner is a British theatre and film director known for her innovative and thought-provoking productions. She was born in 1980 in Sheffield, England, and grew up in the nearby town of Doncaster. After studying English at the University of Cambridge, she trained as a director at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London.
Turner made her debut as a director in 2006 with a production of "The Grace of Mary Traverse" by Timberlake Wertenbaker at the Arcola Theatre in London. Since then, she has directed a wide range of plays, from classic works by Shakespeare and Chekhov to contemporary plays by Caryl Churchill and Lucy Kirkwood.
One of Turner's most notable productions was the 2014 revival of "Hamlet" at the Barbican Centre in London, starring Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role. The production was praised for its modern and visually striking interpretation of the play, which featured live video projections and a revolving stage.
Turner has also directed several productions at the National Theatre in London, including a critically acclaimed revival of Brian Friel's "Philadelphia, Here I Come!" in 2012. Her other National Theatre productions include "Light Shining in Buckinghamshire" by Caryl Churchill and "Chimerica" by Lucy Kirkwood, both of which received widespread critical acclaim.

Critics' Pick: Aliya Al-Hassan's Best Theatre of 2023

The pure joy of theatre is its ability to constantly renew and surprise. For me, 2023 saw a plethora of excellent musicals. Notoriously hard to get right, this year seemed to feature both clever revivals and future successes, many of which remained in my thoughts long after I left the theatre.

Review: THE WITCHES, National Theatre

I'm sure there will be more than a few sighs of relief down the corridors of the National Theatre at the deservedly raptuous reception for The Witches, the latest attempt to bring a hit show to the stage at this lucrative time of year. 'We're not women, we're hell' is not a line you would expect at a family show, but Lyndsey Turner's production combines exuberant fun, quick-witted comedy and a positive attitude towards death to produce an entralling, clever and incredibly funny production.
