John El-Jor

BIO

John El-Jor is a Drama Desk and Lucille Lortel nominated actor, singer, and songwriter whose work blends powerful storytelling with rich, intersectional identity. Raised between Richmond, Virginia, and Yachouch, Lebanon, John’s multicultural upbringing profoundly shapes his art.

Initially set on a medical career, John took a decisive turn to pursue his true passion for theatre and music, earning a BFA in Musical Theatre from Penn State.

His resume includes notable film and TV credits such as Mean Girls (Paramount, 2024), We Live in Cairo (NYTW), American Idol (ABC), The Outlaws (Amazon Prime), ELSBETH (CBS), FBI: Most Wanted (CBS), The Family McMullen (Ed Burns’ upcoming feature), and Pavements (NYFF/Venice FF). His Off-Broadway credits include The Lesson (Ars Nova), Hip Hop Cinderella (New Victory Theatre), Slanted! Enchanted! (Sheen Center), Rough Trade (The Public), and S.I.M.P.S. (IRT Theatre).

Additional theatre projects include Tell Them I’m Still Young (NYSAF), Untitled… Hunter S. Thompson Musical (La Jolla/NYSAF), Come From Away (Ogunquit Playhouse), SHOOK (Northern Stage), Pump Up The Volume (ATF), and Purple Rain (NY Workshop).

John’s dedication to vocal pedagogy reflects his lifelong love of science and art. He studied voice pedagogy under Raymond Sage and Dr. Wendy LeBorgne alongside MFA candidates and continues to expand his expertise through certifications in Estill Voice Training and Broadway Vox. He also runs his own voice studio, guiding others in finding their authentic voices.

Parallel to this, John is an accomplished songwriter and performer. His music gained national attention on American Idol, where Katy Perry famously compared his artistry to Freddie Mercury and Adam Lambert. John’s debut concert in New York City celebrated his EP, Allowed To Be Pretty—a heartfelt exploration of queerness, heartbreak, and self-discovery that has resonated deeply with audiences.

Represented by HCKR and managed by Rochel Saks at SAKS&, John continues to use his multifaceted talents to create art that empowers and connects.
