PerformancesJohn Devereaux Biography
Born in Houston, Texas, John Devereaux, discovered performance at the age of 14 after being persuaded to be in a play most of his close friends were in. From that production stemmed the passion of acting, singing, and entertainment. While in Texas, John was fortunate enough to work in a number of commercials including a national Wheel of Fortune spot. He was even able to get a taste of reality television at his alma mater's show "Top Grad". While in college, for his summer breaks, John had the opportunity to travel to Idaho to be at Coeur d'Alene Summer Theatre (named one of the top 10 places to see the lights off-broadway by USA Today) to perform in the first all black cast in the theater's history in "Once On This Island" as Agwe. John was invited back to CST the following summer to perform the iconic role of Coalhouse Walker, Jr. in the musical epic, "Ragtime". With the gathering momentum from "Ragtime" and receiving his BA in Theatre from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, John relocated to Los Angeles where he now resides continuing to pursue his passion in acting. His film credits include The Darq (2011), Be My Teacher (2011), Zephyr Springs (2013), and more.John Devereaux News

When Lin-Manuel Miranda’s epic masterpiece Hamilton was last in residence at Nashville’s Tennessee Performing Arts Center – where it is now ensconced for an as equally anticipated, if briefer, two-week run through August 7 – the world was a far different place than that in which we live today. Yet somehow, due in very large part to the Covid-19 pandemic, the January 6th insurrection at our nation’s Capitol, and the repercussions and reverberations of those two cataclysmic events that have followed in the intervening two-and-a-half years, Hamilton seems to be more resonant, its story more relevant and its presentation more heartrending and current than ever before.

Lin-Manuel Miranda’s HAMILTON, returns to Austin’s Bass Concert Hall with full seats and roaring crowds. There are shows that shift the way we see theatre and this is one of those rare productions that will remain in our collective consciousness long after the final notes sound.

This Spotlight focuses on John Devereaux, a multi-talented triple-threat actor who I shared the stage with in Little Shop of Horrors at the Westchester Playhouse a year after he arrived in Los Angeles from Houston, and who has gone on to charm audiences across the country in touring productions of Rent and Hamilton. John also appeared locally in Dreamgirls at the Pasadena Playhouse, Spamilton at the Kirk Douglas Theatre, and during the Hollywood Fringe Festival in the world premiere of Recorded in Hollywood, among many other productions. I was longing forward to seeing him take the stage in Hamilton at the Pantages Theatre soon, but unfortunately the national tour in which he was appearing had to shut down along with the rest of the world's theaters. So what's he up to now?

Seattle's critics announce the Nominees of Excellence in Seattle theatrical productions. Spanning dozens of theater companies and productions, from large and prominent to small and humble, the Gypsy Rose Lee Awards honor the excellence found in as much professional theater as we reviewers can attend in a year. Named in honor of the famed theater entrepreneur and Seattle native, Gypsy Rose Lee, and in a nod to the vast numbers or theater practitioners forced to travel the country to earn their living, the Gypsys seek to acknowledge the excellence of the Seattle theater community.
