BIO

Harry Groener is a versatile actor with extensive experience in theater, film, and television. He is best known for his work on Broadway, where he has earned critical acclaim for his performances in a wide range of roles.


Born in Augsburg, Germany, Groener grew up in the United States and began his career in the theater. He made his Broadway debut in the 1979 production of "Oklahoma!" and went on to appear in a number of other shows, including "Cats," "Crazy for You," and "Copenhagen."
One of Groener's most notable roles was as the Wizard in the original production of "Wicked." His performance earned him a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Musical, and he later reprised the role in the show's national tour.
In addition to his work on Broadway, Groener has also appeared in numerous regional theater productions. He has worked with some of the most prestigious theater companies in the country, including the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego, the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles, and the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis.
Groener has also made a name for himself in the world of television and film. He has appeared in a number of popular TV shows, including "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Grey's Anatomy," and "How I Met Your Mother." He has also appeared in several films, including "Amistad," "Road to Perdition," and "About Schmidt."
In addition to his work as an actor, Groener is also an accomplished director and choreographer. He has directed productions of "Into the Woods," "The Music Man," and "1776," among others.
Most recently, Groener appeared in the 2019 Broadway revival of "Tootsie." He played the role of Max Van Horn, a lecherous director who is infatuated with the show's leading lady. Groener's performance was praised by critics, with The New York Times calling him "hilarious" and "terrific."

Today in 1992, Crazy for You opened at the Shubert Theatre, where it ran for 1622 performances. Crazy for You is a musical with a book by Ken Ludwig, lyrics by Ira Gershwin, and music by George Gershwin. Billed as 'The New Gershwin Musical Comedy', it is largely based on the songwriting team's 1930 musical, Girl Crazy, but interpolates songs from several other productions as well. Crazy for You won the 1992 Tony Award for Best Musical.
