BWW Review: George Orwell Meets Brecht and Weill In the Musical CABARET DOS BICHOS BWW Review: George Orwell Meets Brecht and Weill In the Musical CABARET DOS BICHOS
by Claudio Erlichman on September 28, 2021

With libreto, lyrics and direction by Ze Henrique de Paula and original music and musical direction by Fernanda Maia, the language used is inspired by German cabarets, strongly referenced in Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weil. George Orwell's Animal Farm takes place on a farm led initially by Mr. Jones. However, dissatisfied with the domination, the animals decide to make a revolution. They organize and expel Mr. Jones from the farm, as they no longer accept being treated as human slaves. Pigs now lead the farm, considering themselves the most intelligent animals. One of the century's greatest writers, Orwell paints a stark portrayal of power's relationship to the individual and society and its processes.
