Brooklyn, New York based trio Pearl and the Beard brings their genre-bending sound to the Capitol Center for the Arts Spotlight Cafe as part of the On the Edge series on Friday, February 21, at 7:30pm. The group's three-part vocal harmonies and eclectic instrumentation, featuring a mix of cello, guitar, glockenspiel, and drums, has been heard on NPR's World Cafe and earned the group opening spots for singer-songwriters Ani DiFranco and Ingrid Michaelson. Tickets for this intimate performance are on sale now and start at $15.

The Cafe-Lyceum format features refreshments and conversation along with scenes from one of Pontine Theatre's popular original plays based on New England literature. Silver Lake Summers is based on the life and work of American poet and painter Edward Estlin Cummings, a lifelong summer resident of Silver Lake in Madiosn, New Hampshire. Poems and stories, personal correspondence, and family photos, combine to illustrate how the "New Hampshire experience" shaped the work of this seminal 20th century writer. Events are scheduled for Thursday and Friday at 7:30, Saturday at 4:oo and Sunday at 2:00. Tickets are $18 ($3 discount for seniors and students) and may be purchased at - www.pontine.org. Tickets may also be purchased at the door a half-hour prior to each performance (cash & checks only) based on availability. New Hampshire Theatre Project is pleased to host two guest artists as part of their Adult Winter Workshop Series. Liz Korabek Emerson will begin the series on Monday, January 13, 2014 with Letting Go of Stage Fright: Mindfulness for Performers. Liz is a director, performer, teacher and practicing Buddhist. She holds an MFA from Ohio University in theater history and performance. She has trained in corporeal mime, clowning and viewpoints. Her current solo show is Ruthlessly Optimistic for No Apparent Reason. In this class, Liz will show students how to give confident, consistent performances using mindfulness with breath as a focus, and will provide specific exercises to uncover negative thought patterns to relieve fears and regain confidence.
