Leddy Center to Present ON GOLDEN POND, 3/14-23

By:

Leddy Center for the Performing Arts will present local NH playwright, Ernest Thompson's Tony award-winning play, On Golden Pond, March 14-23.

Lovable curmudgeon Norman Thayer (Gary Noseworthy of Newmarket) is as tart-tongued as ever. His spirited wife, Ethel (Sheila Allen-Harris of Epping) delights in all the small things that have enriched their lives. Together, they are returning for the forty-eighth year to their summer home on the lake, frequently visited by family friend Charlie, (Kevin Murphy of Danville) and are soon visited by their adult daughter Chelsea, (Jane Button of Exeter), her uptight fiancé, Bill Ray, (Dr Henry Ferrell of Exeter) and his rebellious teenage son, Billy Ray, (Noah Dever of Exeter).

This is a heartwarming story about revisiting the past and forging new bonds across generations. This modern classic remains an inspiring celebration of the universal challenges we all face, and the ultimate triumphs of life, love, and family. This very successful play became an Academy award-winning movie (starring Katharine Hepburn, Henry Fonda, and Jane Fonda). It is delightfully funny and thoughtfully poignant in its treatment of Ethel and Norman Thayer's long-term relationship along with Norman's oncoming infirmity and their estrangement from their daughter Chelsea. Chelsea's soon to be stepson provides a catalyst which affords the family a chance to heal and grow.

Performances are March 14-23, Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30pm and Sundays and one Wednesday, March 19, at 2:00pm. Tickets are $18 and available online at www.leddycenter.org or by calling the Leddy box office at 603-679-2781, Monday through Friday, from 3:00pm to 5:00pm.

On Golden Pond is partially sponsored by Seacoast Coca-Cola Bottling Co. and THE SHARK 102.1 - 105.3 FM. Leddy Center is a 501c3 New Hampshire Arts and Education Organization.
