Pontine Premieres A NEW ENGLAND CHRISTMAS, Now thru 12/15

12 - 15 December, Pontine Theatre premieres A New England Christmas at Pontine's West End Studio Theatre. The program, underwritten by Chris Dwyer & Michael Huxtable. Co-Artistic Directors, Marguerite Mathews and Greg Gathers unveil original adaptations of two heart-warming Christmas stories set in New England: Captain Eli's Best Ear by Frank Stockton, a yarn about two salty, old sea captains who decide to keep Christmas together; and The Romance of a Christmas Card by Kate Douglas Wiggin, a story about far-flung families reunited by the lure of a Christmas with the 'folks back home.' These charming 19th century holiday stories-not to mention punch and cookies-are sure to evoke the holiday spirit! The soundtrack includes traditional melodies, many of them played and recorded by Strafford, NH's Jeffrey Zohler.
Pontine's WEST FEST to Run 12/26-30

For the sixth year, Pontine Theatre presentss a host of New Vaudeville performers at its annual WEST-FEST. Performances are scheduled for 2pm, 26-30 December at Pontine's West End Studio Theatre located at 959 Islington Street in Portsmouth. WEST-FEST is modeled on the Phyzgig Festival which was founded in Portland Maine in 1997. It's a family-oriented festival that chases away the blues with performances featuring magic, mirth, and mayhem. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased online at www.pontine.org. Director Elaine Gatchell is proud to present Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol", at Leddy Center's beautiful theatre at Verdant Pastures on Ladd's Lane in Epping, NH,December 6-15. As is tradition at Christmas shows at Leddy Center, eggnog with whipped cream and nutmeg will be offered at intermission! Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30pm and Sunday afternoons and one Wednesday afternoon, December 11, at 2:00pm. Steve Koch stars as Ebenezer Scrooge in this timeless classic presented ten Christmases over the past 38 years by Leddy Center. Dr. Henry Ferrell is Bob Crachit, Melissa Ransdell is Mrs. Crachit, and Damian Raymond is Marley. Don LaDuke of Litchfield is the Ghost of Christmas Present, Kathy St. Germain of Fremont is the Ghost of Christmas Past and Noah Anzalone of Fremont is Tiny Tim. A beautiful acappella quartet performs Christmas carols throughout the production!

The program, underwritten by Chris Dwyer & Michael Huxtable, includes two 19th century stories which take place in New England villages. The Romance of a Christmas Card, by Kate Douglas Wiggin, and Cap'n Eli's Best Ear, by Frank Stockton. The soundtrack includes traditional melodies, many of them played and recorded by Strafford, NH's Jeffrey Zohler. Performances are Thursday and Friday at 7:30, Saturday at 4:00 and Sunday at 2:00. Tickets are $24 and may be purchased in advance at -- www.pontine.org. Tickets may also be purchased at the door (cash & checks only) a half-hour prior to each performance, based on availability. Pontine's 2013-14 Season is supported by grants from the NH State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. Pontine's West End Studio Theatre is located at 959 Islington Street in Portsmouth NH. The theatre is not visible from the street. Look for the big 959 on the signpost at the head of the drive. New Hampshire Theatre Project's 25th anniversary season continues with an original adaptation of Antoine de Saint Exupery's beloved classic The Little Prince. Created by Genevieve Aichele, CJ Lewis and Shay Willard, Finding the Prince follows three soldiers and one journalist who have crashed in the desert during a nameless war. As they struggle to survive, they begin to read a tattered novel given to one of them by a dying soldier. Each character begins a journey towards coming to terms with their own 'little prince,' the deepest, sweetest part of us who knows that 'what is most important is unseen.'

Seacoast Repertory Theatre has announced that Let's "B" Reel: Cult Classic Films at The Rep will screen Joe Dante's Gremlins with special appearance by Producer Michael Finnell December 11th, 2013. In addition to the special appearance, before and after the screening there will be an exclusive exhibit of Gremlins props on display, that are exclusively on loan from Director, Joe Dante. Never before seen props include most of the "Peltzer Inventions" Including The Bathroom Buddy, various prototypes of Gremlins, and original Gremlin "skulls". The crown jewel of this exhibit is an exceptionally rare 1984 screen-used Gremlin puppet, restored by Tom Spina and provided by private collector Richard D'Andrea.

January 2-5, Pontine Theatre kicks off its Cafe-Lyceum Series with Silver Lake Summers: an e. e. cummings revue. The Cafe-Lyceum format features refreshments and conversation along with scenes from one of Pontine Theatre's popular original plays based on New England literature. Silver Lake Summers is based on the life and work of American poet and painter Edward Estlin Cummings, a lifelong summer resident of Silver Lake in Madiosn, New Hampshire. Poems and stories, personal correspondence, and family photos, combine to illustrate how the 'New Hampshire experience' shaped the work of this seminal 20th century writer. Performances are Thursday and Friday at 7:30, Saturday at 4:00 and Sunday at 2:00. Tickets are $18 ($3 discount for seniors and students) and may be purchased at - www.pontine.org.
