Magenta Giraffe Theatre Company Presents February Workshops
Magenta Giraffe Theatre Company is thrilled to announce our February "Drop In and Pay What You Can" workshops! No reservations needed, no commitment; just stop by, have an actor workout, and network with other local professionals. Each three-hour workshop is designed for the theatre professional who never knows when he or she might have rehearsal... or a callback... or a paying job! Drop in, pay what you can at the door, and spend some time refining your craft!
We will ALWAYS welcome ALL students, regardless of the amount of their donations! However, in order to keep these classes going, we encourage our students to aim for the suggested donation of $15 per class. Description of Workshops:The Natural Actor: Training oneself to get rid of personal mannerisms can be very difficult, especially when in front of an audience. Recognizing these traits is half the battle and MGT is here to help! Students will be asked to take a close look at their natural physicality and what makes them unique. This workshop will lead the actor through a series of exercises to release the body, making it possible to harness the imagination and sink deeply into character.
Working in the Where: Every day, our lives are full of routine tasks and events. How we deal with those tasks speaks volumes about our characters. "Working in the Where" is designed to help you feel comfortable in any environment. Students will work with heightened awareness of the space around them, exploring how that space can change the atmosphere of a character.
Cold Reading Techniques: Two words that can strike fear into any actor's heart: "Cold Reading". This workshop will allow the actor to practice cold reading technique, learn tips and tricks to help his or her read appear more polished, and steer the actor away from common mistakes so often made in this type of audition.
Worst Case Scenarios: As actors, we have all experienced that moment on stage, film, or at an audition where we FREEZE UP. Despite all our preparation we are at a complete loss. This session will provide helpful hints on how to handle those moments when you feel like your alone and naked in front of a full house. We will discuss how to handle the situation rationally, use improv to navigate our way back from disaster, and other helpful tips on how to deal with those "OH NO!" moments.
Memorization Techniques: Worrying about remembering lines can wreck acting in the moment and is the source of many actor woes. This workshop will cover techniques for monologue and dialogue memorization so that you can do what you do best - act! Don't be caught unprepared in an audition or on stage; having a piece fully memorized so that it flows naturally with your active choices will allow you to be free to do your best work!
Monologue Coaching: Refine your audition piece in a safe, supportive environment! Students will have the opportunity to present a monologue of their choice to be directed, coached, and polished. Monologue books will also be available for those students still in search of the perfect audition material.
