Northland Symphony Orchestra's 2011 Season Includes Mozart, handel, et al.

By: Feb. 08, 2011

Northland Symphony Orchestra, Kansas City's preeminent orchestra, will perform the third concert of its 44th season on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at 3pm at Staley High School, 2800 NE Shoal Creek Parkway, Kansas City, MO  64156.  Admission to the performance is free.

The program will include Franck's Symphony in D Minor, and Verdi's Overture to the Froce of Destiny.  The Northland Symphony is also proud to showcase two guest sopranos, Sarah Tannehill and Nicole Murray. The vibrant and versatile coloratura soprano Sarah Tannehill has performed leading operatic roles with the Boston Lyric Opera, Opera Company of Philadelphia, Opera Omaha, Fort Worth Opera, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, and the Saarländisches Staatstheatre in Saarbrücken, Germany. Shortly after Sarah's move to Kansas City in 2006, she received rave reviews for singing her first Ophelia in Thomas' Hamlet with the Kansas City Lyric, with only a few hours notice. In 2007, Sarah earned distinction from Symphony magazine as an Emerging Artist. She has sung with Chicago Chamber Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, North Shore Choral Society, Southern Illinois Symphony, Wichita Symphony, Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra, the KC Chamber Orchestra, the New Ear Ensemble, and the Kansas City Symphony. Sarah is also a three-time Emmy winner for her film work with the Missouri Department of Conservation. Sarah received her Master's Degree at UMKC Conservatory in 1999. She is a member of the Lyric Arts Trio, and teaches voice in Overland Park, Lee's Summit and William Jewell College.

Nicole Murray sang in her first Christmas pageant at age three, and she has been performing ever since.  She holds degrees in music from William Jewell College and the University of Denver.  Nicole also enjoys directing the choirs at Maple Woods Community College and Good Shepherd Episcopal Church.  Currently, she is the Director of the Community School of Music at William Jewell College, and she also teaches for that program. Nicole has performed and recorded with the Kansas City Chorale and has sung for many years with the Kansas City Symphony Chorus. She has also been a soloist for the Kansas City Symphony's Magic of Christmas performances, and she regularly performs with Musica Vocale and various choral groups in the area.  She is from the voice studio of Arnold Epley, Emeritus Professor of Music at William Jewell College.  As a member of the American Coaster Enthusiasts, Nicole works on her high notes each summer by visiting the world's most exciting amusement parks.  Together, along with symphony, will perform Handel's The Lord is my Strength from Israel in Egypt, Mozart's Sull'aria from Marrige of Figaro, Delibes' Sous le dôme épais from Lakmé, and Bernstein's The Wrong Note Rag from Wonderful Town.
