Mercury Baroque Partners with Social Service Charities for Music that Matters
Saturday, December 10, 2011 will mark the beginning of a program called Music that Matters. Mercury Baroque will partner with one social service charity for every concert for the rest of the 2011-2012 season. This collaboration seeks to fill a gap between the work of social service non-profits and arts non-profits. The first such collaboration will be with CHILDREN AT RISK. Upcoming collaborations will feature Houston Area Women’s Center, among others.
This collaboration is a wonderful way to provide a different kind of support for people that need it. CHILDREN AT RISK works to improve the lives of children in Texas. Specifically they work to influence policy on a macro-level to improve the lives of children in Texas. They serve a truly noble purpose and are an asset to the greater community. Mercury Baroque’s contribution to the community is different but can be viewed as another type of enrichment. Mercury Baroque provides beautiful and touching musical experiences that make our community a better place. In a sense, what CHILDREN AT RISK and Mercury Baroque do is not entirely dissimilar. They are both committed to improving the world around us.
Supporters of CHILDREN AT RISK will be able to purchase tickets for Mercury Baroque’s December 10 performance of Messiah using a special promotion code. $10 from every ticket purchased with that code will be donated to CHILDREN AT RISK. In addition, key staff and board members of the organization will be invited to the performance and recognized by the Mercury Baroque board president during the curtain address. This cross promotional effort will increase visibility for both organizations amongst their respective audiences.
