Broadway in Hawaii Has Announced Lottery and Special Student Discount for RENT

Broadway in Hawaii announced today that seats in the first rows of the orchestra section will be available for $24.50 for every performance of RENT, the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical. It is a RENT tradition to offer discounted rush seating in the first few rows of the orchestra section. This tradition began in 1996 in New York when the show moved to Broadway after a sold-out run in a small downtown theatre. The 20th Anniversary Tour continues the tradition of offering these orchestra seats in every city.

Upon waiting to greet Vanessa Manuel-Mazzullo, one of the cast members of Palikū Theatre's Songs for a New World, the first remark out of my mouth was, 'Everyone should see this show'. Now, when it comes to theatre, making recommendations, and especially reviewing shows, that's not a statement to be taken lightly. However, that is the case with this particular show---one imbued with a stalwart cast, passionate vocals, and adept direction.
Brand New Festival E Komo Mai Launches in Hawaii

E Komo Mai means 'All Are Welcome' in native Hawaiian and  is the ethos of a new dance music festival in America's paradise, Hawaii. The festival takes place on the island of Oahu, known as the gathering place by ancient Hawaiians and an international travel destination today. Celebrating the famous island and its Aloha Spirit through both music and culture, E Komo Mai is an intimate weekend of curated events that make the most of Oahu's unique scenery and settings. Taking place February 14th to 17th 2020 over a three day weekend with talent such as DJ Dan, Doc Martin, Mikey Lion, Sacha Robotti and Kill Frenzy plus many more names to be announced.

Coming all the way from the 'Great White Way' to the island of Oahu is the remarkable, magical spectacle The Illusionists Live From Broadway. Comprised of six performers---'The Unusualist' (Raymond Crowe); 'The Trickster' (Paul Dabek); 'The Daredevil' (Jonathan Goodwin); 'The Manipulator' (An Ha Lim); 'The Delusionist' (Stuart MacLeod); 'The Sorceress' (Sabine Van Diemen)---all of whom form the titular 'The Illusionists', each performer has two to three segments on stage to dazzle the audience. Spanning over approximately two hours with one fifteen-minute intermission, the overall performances combined measure up to create an absolutely immersive, scintillating time at the theatre.

HTY is pleased to announce its third production of the season, In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson.  The play is based on the award-winning and well-loved book by Bette Bao Lord and was adapted for the stage by Mark Branner.  We are delighted to produce this original production of Mrs. Lord's important work on the 100th anniversary of Jackie Robinson's birth and in the Year of the Boar.  Mrs. Lord actually began her illustrious international career at the East West Center and is widely regarded as one of the most influential Asian American writers and thinkers.

An audience of Head Start preschoolers at Blanche Pope Elementary School in Waimanalo got a lesson on listening with a special Honolulu Theatre for Youth performance of a?oeShhhhha?? today. Written and directed by local children's playwright Annie Cusick Wood, the original educational theater production featured performances by HTY company actors Serina Dunham and Matthew Mazzella, and was funded by a $30,000 community benefit grant from Kaiser Permanente.
