(05/04/2016) - On May 2nd, The 52nd Street Project held their annual benefit, LAUGHING MATTERS, Kids' Stand-up, Adults Deliver at the Edison Ballroom in New York. The raucous sold-out event hosted by comedians Lewis Black and Kathleen Madigan, was The Project's most successful to date with over 350 people in attendance, raising funds for the Project's academic and artistic mentoring programming. The Project makes a difference in the lives of Hell's Kitchen (Clinton) kids by pairing them with theater professionals who mentor them through the creation of original theater. The sold-out evening raised nearly half a million dollars and celebrated the organization's 35 years of support and lasting impact on young talent in the cultural capital of New York and across the nation. The event honored the tremendous contributions of executives from American corporate and educational institutions including EY, MetLife, Hunt Consolidated, PWC and Washington College, and over $2M was raised in support of All Stars programs. The Gala highlighted the Development School for Youth, an All Stars program that partners with the business community to help inner-city young people learn a professional performance, followed by placing them in paid summer internships. This summer, All Stars Project will be placing a record number of 500 young people in internships at 150 companies across the country. Gala attendees and participants were treated to a special hip-hop performance from dozens of alumni and youth leaders from the All Stars Talent Show Network, the All Stars flagship program. With a band that included Art Hirahara on piano, Pat O'Leary on bass, Eric Halvorson on drums and Scott Robinson on sax, 'On the Road Again' featured songs Stravelli has collected and composed in travels as varied as a US State Department-sponsored international tour, headlining the Eleuthera Jazz Festival in the Bahamas and a nine-month European tour of Hair. The show showcased Stravelli's signature mix of eclectic influences including international folk songs, jazz standards, fresh arrangements of pop and musical theater, original compositions from her forthcoming CD release and a preview of her new Willie Nelson tribute 'City Girl, Country Boy'.

Hosted by MSG Networks' Jill Martin and Al Trautwig, this year's Talent Show celebrated the 10th anniversary of both the foundation and the talent show and showcased more than 22 different performances from 22 Garden of Dreams Foundation partner organizations.
