BWW Review: L'ACCIDENT DE BERTRAND (BERTRANDIN KOHTAUS) by HIT Helsinki
by Rosanna Liuski - April 09, 2022
HIT theatre collective brought us L'Accident de Bertrand (fin. Bertrandin kohtaus) by Emilie Leconte at Kaapelitehdas. It had its premiere in Finland, excluding its reading in Reading European Drama Festival, Helsinki 2019. The text itself is eventful and interesting with many layers and possibilities in its execution. It does proceed as if it was a dream.
BWW Review: The Hobbit at Turku is a Solid Fantasy Adventure
by Rosanna Liuski - April 04, 2022
Unlike the Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit is a book targeted for children. Thus the crew had seemingly made a choice to stay true to its source material. Things are kept simple and even the most scary stone-trolls are made less scary with a funny accent. Gandalf comes forth to tell the story as if a narrator and fight choreographs by Oula Kitti are witty and flowing rather than violent-looking.

ARVIO: Marian tunnustus pohtii ja opettaa pyhästä, rakkaudesta ja anteeksiannosta, teatteri Avoimet Ovet
by Rosanna Liuski - March 11, 2022
Marian tunnustus - muistokirjoitus hevoselle on vakuuttava kotimainen uutuusteos.
BWW Review: SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD By TAMK Musical Students
by Rosanna Liuski - March 03, 2022
I got invited to the TAMK's musical students' premiere of Song For a New World. It's been directed by a leading musical actor Petrus Kähkönen who now took the job of a director. He had a challenge of arranging a show that was originally performed by four people in a form of a concert now into a musical for 15 performers. He did well. Let's dig into the review:

KIVI KIINNOSTAA, MUTTA MIKSI? Ohjaaja Wallgrenin ja dramaturgi Buchwaldin haastattelu
by Rosanna Liuski - February 16, 2022
Kansallisteatterin 150-vuotisjuhlavuodelle Suurelle näyttämölle tuodaan aiheellisesti Red Nose Companyn Aleksis Kivi, jonka kansallisromanttista maailmaa säestää kamariorkesteri Avanti. Katsotaan, mitä tekijöillä on sanottavana:

Press Event: Anastasia premiering in 2022 at Tampere's Theatre| Interview with Piltz, Harjanne, Whittaker & Bewsher
by Rosanna Liuski - December 12, 2021
'I’m never in a situation where I’m thinking that now I’m gonna direct a pause. I answer the same way as in the previous one that if it makes sense to me then I let it be. But if it doesn’t make sense I start discussing with the actor why are you doing like this? What are you thinking, what are you feeling? And then you go through that' - Harjanne
THE BOY CODE Comes to Tampere Työväen Teatteri This Week
by BWW News Desk - December 07, 2021
The Boy Code, written by Kati Kaartinen, is a story about a family. Stunningly touching and recognizable. A lot of fun! In the play, the worlds of family members find themselves on a collision course, even though everyone is right. Why doesn't that make sense? Why is it like that, why isn’t it different.
HAIR SALON is Now Playing at Tampere Työväen Teatteri
by BWW News Desk - December 06, 2021
Ansku (Sari Puumalainen) and Raikku (Maria Kuusiluoma) are childhood friends who work as hairdressers in the suburbs. The old Retail space they rented out is falling apart; there is mold in the corners, and the pungent creosote floats in the air. When the toilet bowl stops working, a firm decision is made in the minds of women that this cannot continue. The dream of a decent business creates hope for better, but can they afford it?
BWW Finland Review: REvolution by The Red Nose Company
by Rosanna Liuski - November 26, 2021
'RÈvolution is here and ready to give the stage to the Invisible Ones! RÉvolution is the second performance from the clown-duo Babylon and RÉ. The performance studies the meaning of being seen through clownery and comedy. How one finds an own voice and how to make it heard? Whose responsibility is it to talk about oppression and can guilt be the force of change?' - rednose.fi
BLIND SPOT Will Be Performed at Vallila National Theater Beginning This Week
by BWW News Desk - November 18, 2021
Spring 2020. Sweden - an incredibly modern and sterile, beautiful and admired, exciting and liberal folk home - lets the elderly die. Why is this happening? And why in Sweden, where everything is always discussed thoroughly and publicly, is everything being discussed now except this tragedy?
Review and Analysis: 1,718 words on LOU SALOME at KOM-Theatre
by Rosanna Liuski - November 06, 2021
A performance starts as early as in the green room (lämpiö). Everything was lit with a subtle, almost unnoticeable red light. It's the color of bravery and the femininity, a color of a sacrifice - though before the 1940s it was the color of the masculine.
BWW Review: THE COMEDY ABOUT A BANK ROBBERY at TURKU CITY THEATRE
by Rosanna Liuski - October 29, 2021
My journey to this work started by Turku City theatre's Teosavaus, a preview panel with the director Snoopi Siren and two of the actors, old-timer Taneli Mäkelä and newcomer Elias Keränen, interviewed by the head of art department Mikko Kouki. It was a good set of people in terms of hearing about the rehearsal process from different perspectives.
