Enrollment for CSA Classes at UCONN Now Open

By:

The Community School of the Arts (CSA) at the University of Connecticut (UCONN) is now enrolling students for its fall program of non-credit classes in music and art for adults, teens, and children. Individual lessons and classes begin the week of September 9, 2014.

Private instruction encourages music literacy, the growth of instrumental and vocal skills, and develops patience, dedication, perseverance, goal setting and time management. Lessons are offered on most classical instruments and meet once a week with an instructor for 30, 45 or 60 minutes.

Also available at CSA is Suzuki Music study for Violin, Cello and Guitar for students as young as 4 years old. The Suzuki approach differs from traditional methods of teaching instrumental music because the student begins training at an early age, and parental involvement is required through attendance in individual and group lessons (twice a week) to assist the student with practice at home.

Chamber music and ensemble offerings for teens include the Presto String Orchestra, for beginner and intermediate level violin, viola, cello and bass, Small Chamber Music Ensembles, Saxophone Ensemble, and Brass Ensemble. The Richards Chamber Music Coaching Program places talented pre-college string, woodwind and brass instrumentalists alongside undergraduate and graduate UConn students training for careers in music performance and education in rare, yet valuable chamber music experiences. The Richards ensembles are coached by UCONN and CSA Chamber Music faculty.

CSA also offers Early Childhood Music Integrated Arts classes (music and art for ages 3-5), Early Childhood Music classes for Children on the Autism Spectrum (ages 2-8), Group Class Piano for Children, the UConn Choir: a children's choral program for grades K-6, and American Songbook for grades 7-9, where students will perform Broadway musical songs, and Music Theory classes.

Pottery and Visual Art classes are also offered. Children's classes include Fun with Clay (ages 6-12), Wheelwork for Teens (ages 12+) Homeschool Clay (ages 7+), Drawing and 2-D Media (for serious art students ages 9-14), and All Things Art (general art for ages 5-10). Adult and teen pottery classes include Pottery I, Pottery II and Handbuilding and Surface Design. All materials are included and students have access to monitored pottery studio hours.

Most Community School of the Arts programs are held at the UConn Depot campus in Storrs, CT. Parking is free and adjacent to the CSA campus. For additional information or to register, contact CSA at 860-486-1073, csa@uconn.edu or visit www.csa.uconn.edu.
