A Symphonic Celebration Of Prince To Rock The Ohio Theatre

Presented by CAPA, the new Live Nation Urban and TCG Entertainment production "4U: A Symphonic Celebration of Prince" plays the Ohio Theatre today, September 25. The first and only official, estate-approved Prince celebration, "4U" will present the music of Prince like never before, with a full symphony orchestra. Throughout the course of the evening, Prince's extensive music catalog will be represented, showcasing his greatest hits as well as some lesser-known gems. Questlove, an avid Prince fan, has helped curate the music and symphony arrangements.

A new symphony that fuses folk and classical-style music will have its world premiere under the auspices of the Ohio Valley Symphony (OVS) at the historic Ariel Opera House in Gallipolis, Ohio, on Saturday, October 6. The production will be taped for national public television and radio broadcast, including worldwide on the American Forces Radio Network.

Warehouse Theatre will present The Sam Shepard Festival, a theatre repertory series honoring the American playwright Sam Shepard. The Festival will include fully staged productions of the Pulitzer Prize winning play Buried Child, the Tony Award winning play True West, and the semi-autobiographical play Cowboy Mouth, as well as readings on Curse of the Starving Class, Heartless, and Fool for Love.

As part of Columbus' celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Harlem Renaissance, the Drexel Theatre will present a special screening of Thelonious Monk: Straight, No Chaser on Thursday, September 27. Released in 1988, the 90-minute documentary chronicles the life of legendary jazz pianist and composer Thelonious Monk (1917-82) and features live performances by Monk and his group as well as posthumous interviews with friends and family.

Audiences will meet Spinosaurus, the largest predatory dinosaur yet discovered-larger than T. rex-and hear the incredible story of how this prehistoric giant was almost lost to science, before being brought back to light with help from contemporary scientists. Austin, the achiever, is working on a script he has sold to producer Saul Kimmer when Lee, a demented petty thief, drops in. He pitches his own idea for a movie to Kimmer, who then wants Austin to junk his bleak, modern love story and write Lee's trashy Western tale. The first, Summer of '63 written by York Walker (LA), directed by Alan Bomar Jones (Dayton), and featuring Kendra Lucas (CBus), Shanelle Marie (CBus), Tobie Windham (LA), Asher Grodman (NYC), Lateefah Holder (LA), Taylor Moss (CBus), and John Stewart (NYC). The second, Cubicle Farm written and directed by Broadway actor Asa Somers and featuring Broadway actor Mike Faist. The CSO's Concerts For Kids To Celebrate Halloween With MONSTER BOOGIE

As part of the CSO's Concerts for Kids series, newly appointed Assistant Conductor Andres Lopera will conduct the Columbus Symphony in "Monster Boogie," a special Halloween-themed, hour-long concert for kids aged 2-10. The concert will include themes from popular Hollywood films such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Wars, and Ghostbusters as well as spooky classical music favorites. Families are invited to dress up in their ghoulish best and compete for prizes in pre-concert Halloween costume contests, plus vote for their favorite CSO musician costume.
