MadLab Theatre and Gallery is extending its outreach to young playwrights in local and regional high schools in Central Ohio. The goal is to produce a group of 10-20 minute short plays written by local high school playwrights for its High School Playwrights Roulette in MadLab's 2012 theatre season. Playwrights will have an opportunity to submit their short play to MadLab to be chosen for 1 of 10 show slots. Once the 10 scripts have been selected, the high school playwrights will work with locally produced adult playwrights in workshops to help develop and revise the scripts. MadLab will then produce all 10 scripts in the March of 2012.
What is Roulette?
The unique style and long running history of MadLab's Theatre Roulette and its ability to involve a large number of artists is what has inspired MadLab to do the High School Playwrights Roulette. It is also in the spirit of MadLab's mission to provide "an artistic haven for the creation and experience of original works."
Theatre Roulette has 10 shows included in its festival. It produces 3 on Thursday, 3 on Friday, and 4 on Saturday. The name "Roulette" refers to how the shows rotate from one week to the next. For example, the three on Thursday of the opening weekend, will then be on Friday the next weekend and the three on Friday will move to Saturday and Saturday to Thursday and so on. This same process will happen with the High School Roulette as well. All 10 shows will be produced and put into groups to be shown on different days each weekend.
Below are the submission requirements and also a time line for the High School Roulette Project. Please, help us continue promoting the arts to students throughout the community through this program.
