Representatives with Kappy's Subs announced today that it has made the move to use locally grown and/or raised foods under the Fresh from Florida program. "We're excited to use locally grown foods," said Rachel Milsom, owner and spokeswoman for Kappy's Subs, which is known as Maitland's tastiest landmark since 1967. "Support your local businesses and growers and come for the best cheese steaks, cold subs and milkshakes in town."

Milsom went on to describe Kappy's Subs as a snug, no-frills diner with twelve stools serving a menu of subs, burgers and hot dogs, and added that she believes using locally grown and/or raised foods, following the Fresh From Florida program will enhance the restaurant's food quality offerings.

According to Fresh From Florida's website, The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services supports and promotes Florida agriculture, protects the environment, safeguards consumers, and ensures the safety and wholesomeness of food. As Florida's lead agency for food safety, it analyzes more than 15,000 food samples each year, while its scientists test for toxins, allergens, chemical contaminants, pesticide residues, food additives and fraudulent formulations.

Kappy's Subs decision to use locally grown and/or raised foods could prove to have perfect timing. According to a recent study by the NPD Group, a global market research company specialized in providing consumer behavior and point-of-sale information, consumer demand for fresh foods, which is being driven by Generation Z and Millennials, has grown by twenty percent over the past ten years, and is expected to continue an upward spiral over the next five years.

"We not only want to provide our customers with great-tasting food in a fun dining atmosphere, but we also want to give our customers the confidence in knowing that they are eating the best quality of foods available," Milsom stressed, before adding, "By using locally grown or raised foods, we are able to utilize the natural resources we have right here in the state of Florida, where some of the best foods are produced in the world."
