Company Broadway

Hey everyone,
I am looking into getting tickets to Company on Broadway because I really want to see Patti live on stage. Does anyone know if Dec. 18 (9 days after opening night) is a reasonable date to see her? Thanks :)

What does "reasonable" mean in this context?  What are you asking?

Yeah. I think it’s safe to assume 9 days after opening is reasonable and you won’t be in any way being rude.

He's just being snarky because the question is unanswerable. She's contracted to do every show, so no date is more likely than another.

Patti has a good attendance record and you should buy with confidence; of course anything could happen but that goes for all theater. Also, Brody is a nasty old queen so ignore him.

It's impossible to predict. She might be sick or have an emergency. We all want everyone on when we see shows, and sometimes we don't get that. It's unfortunate but there's nothing anyone can do about it. Just go for it and hope for the best.

It’s highly unlikely she won’t be there, she rarely misses shows. If by (a slim) chance she is out that day, you can get a refund or exchange your tickets for a difference performance.

Well Nolan LuPone I agree that intellectually with others it's always impossible to predict, of course this is one of the major issues we deal with as a fan so let me give you the things I try to do to maximise the chance I'll see a performer. I can't say that these always matter/it's anecdotal/gut feel and I'm sure others will want to disagree but if it helps the kind of things I think about when trying to see the peformers I want:

* Show schedule: I typically will prioritise Friday/Saturday night and avoid matinees where possible (especially Wednesday matinees)

* Show performance history: understand from forums or others how likely the performer is to miss shows and adjust approach accordingly..e.g. with Bernadette Peters since NIGHT MUSIC she hasn't missed a single show on Broadway so I felt less concerned. Whereas Alice Ripley had a TERRIBLE attendance record on the N2N tour so I had to act accordingly (booked 4 performances! She was out for 2). Patti LuPone has very good attendance..I don't believe she missed a performance in the London Company. She believes passionately about attending all performances if I recall from interviews. 

* Book the show multiple times across a couple of days (or less) so that in the unlikely chance someone is out you already have a good seat to see them again shortly after 

* Where in run: During previews or shortly after opening is the best time. Attendance in my opinion seems to get worse as time progresses. In previews they often haven't even rehearsed understudies yet. 

* Twitter: if they have a social media presence check if they have listed upcoming absences 

* Show billing: I typically try and understand the show policies around refunds if stars are out (usually always if they are above the title, and often but not always if they are other leads). If they do offer refunds I feel less concerned about just trying to make it work.

LuPone doesn’t pull that intermittent diva attendance b.s. like a select few stars do. Only something quite serious would prevent her from going on. Whatever she is, she’s a pro. 

Granted Covid is a strange new world for the theatre, but I’m sure she’ll take every precaution to see that she’s onstage every night.

LuPone doesn’t call out because she stubbed her toe or needs a mental health day. She’s one of the last true “workhorses” of the stage and unless something serious comes up - she’ll be on stage.

I certainly hope that she's performing the 18th, lol, as we moved our tickets to that date. 

The only dates right now that I believe she is definitely not scheduled to be there is at least part of the week of January 17th. It isn't listed on Telecharge (when I called them to change tickets, I brought it up with them and they said they'd look into it because they hadn't heard about it), but she is apparently scheduled for a few performance dates that week out in the California/Nevada area:

The McCallum Theatre, Palm Springs 1/18

Segerstrom Center for the Arts, Costa Mesa 1/20

The Smith Center, Las Vegas NV 1/22

Since she is an above the title star, they should still honor the refund request once they confirm she will be out of the show at week!

The only information I have comes directly from those venue website event calendars. I wouldn't have known myself if another poster on these boards in another Company thread hadn't posted. Telecharge was quick to switch my tickets when I called them (I also originally had seats for the 22nd), but they themselves hadn't heard anything official about her being out. I gave them the dates and venues of the two dates I'd seen listed online (didn't know about the third at the time) and the person I spoke with said they'd bring it up with higher ups to look into it and see about a note being posted on the site to inform customers. 

I will say that Telecharge in general is excellent about exchanging seats - I've never had an issue with them, and this was no exception.

Manu Narayan - just announced.

Also, Heath Saunders, Jacob Dickey, and Nicholas Rodriguez are joining the cast as New Yorkers (I would imagine, during “Another Hundred People&rdquo.

Edited: Rodriguez is an understudy and is not in the ensemble; Stanley Bahorek, John Arthur Greene, and Philip Hernandez will NOT return to the show when it resumes previews.
