Well, they have permission to re-open then - doesn't mean they all will.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I would buy premium seats to Wicked at this point just to be back in a theater, but I remain very curious to see how producers and creatives emerge from this period of solitude and (hopefully) reflection. Broadway needs to change to be made more accessible and equitable, and I’m hoping that doesn’t get lost in the hoopla of “Well, we’re back.”
I’m mostly excited to see how the landscape of Off-Broadway changes, since it generally relies less on the week-to-week financial viability of whatever work is being presented.

I’m actually crying.
Obviously there will not be things like the stage door for a long while, but I would give my left nad to be back in the theatre again.

I’m very excited to see which shows will start on that date. I already got an email from “Six” about a presale tomorrow.
I do have a feeling though that those first shows (for all shows)are going to sell out fast.

an interesting approach to full reopening at the ballparks also in Cuomo's announcements today:
Starting May 19, full capacity seating at Yankee Stadium & Citi Field will be available for fully vaccinated people.
For unvaccinated the capacity will be 33% to comply with CDC social distancing rules.
Masks will be required for all fans.
In theatres, I anticipate 0% capacity for the unvaccinated. It's all about making life miserable for those who choose to put others at risk.

In theory, yes, In practice? Producers are going to start again the moment they have the chance, they've lost money as well. Not that I care about rich a-hole producers losing money, I care about out of work employees who've lost their career this past year and a half.
HogasHero-Yeah, I have no issue making life miserable for the unvaccinated. Make stupid choices, play stupid games. It's mostly the same group people who refused to do their part to get us past this hot mess, so I say let them get a taste of their own medicine and feel what the rest of us who took this seriously felt.

This is a great announcement but some people will assume that shows will be open by then and because they can buy tickets for September 14th and shortly after that, they will. But, shows will announce when they are coming back individually so I wish it would happen all on one day so people won't continue to be disappointed.

Now try and convince me to stay in a crowded indoor public space for several hours when I have been quite overcautious throughout this pandemic.
Good luck to the shows that manage to reopen. I hope you don't close within a few weeks.

Let's see what the reqs will be for audiences first before getting bent out of shape just yet...I truly wouldn't be surprised if being vaccinated was required and at this juncture, I support it. See reason above. I like to think regular theatre goers generally are the ones getting vaccinated anyway since it's right and smart. As its been said, herd immunity may never happen since there's still too many conspiracy believers out there, therefore continuing to hold off the return of live 'anything' will just make the return slower and harder.

The demographics that have high vaccination rates also nicely correspond to the stereotypical theatergoer.
Even without forcing the issue I imagine the rate of non-vaccinated people going to Broadway shows after September would be on the low end.

This is incredible news, and I can't wait to be back in a theatre.

While sadly, there are many people out there who refuse to get the vaccine due to conspiracy theories and misinformation, please keep in mind the people who are immunocompromised/have a history of allergies for whom the vaccine may not be an option, and are therefore relying on herd immunity. To work around this, I think having either proof of vaccination or proof of a negative COVID test in the previous few days before a performance is doable. Not attending is also an option, but...
(For the record, I myself am vaccinated.)

Tourists from San Francisco and Seattle would likely appreciate a vaccine mandate, but not tourists from Florida or Alabama. Theaters will need to decide if they'll be able to make enough money by opening under such circumstances.

We're good with Washington and California, we will pass on the visitors from those other states though.
