What are some movies that you think will still get a musical version? I'm not talking about anything scheduled somewhere already like Mrs. Doubtfire or in development. I'm talking about what you think might be coming in the next 10+ years?

To answer my own question, here are a few that wouldn't surprise me (not saying all these are good ideas, just saying I could see it)

My Best Friend's Wedding
Harriet the Spy
Tangled
50 First Dates
Bridesmaids
Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Jason Robert Brown and Jonathan Marc Sherman were collaborating on the A League Of Their Own musical that had a reading a few years ago - I hope that comes to fruition soon!

Ryan Scott Oliver also posted about the musical adaption of Hugo currently having a lab in London right now.

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA is definite. Strong fan base of both the book and the film plus the creative team and producers are already attached. Even before a cast has been announced, everything already looks good for this one.

The last time a thread like this started, I said I thought Chocolat would make a great musical. I stand by that. Call Me By Your Name could work, too. I'm serious about these two, but...

How about a Steel Magnolias musical? If they base it on the film instead of the play, there'll be more characters. I picture a production number called "The Hairdo Hall of Fame" and, later, a killer aria for M'Lynn at the funeral. If Sara Bareilles does the score, she could even put a nod to Waitress in it, as Aunt Fern bakes the armadillo groom's cake - "How to Make Gray Icing." I'm also picturing a big montage number at the Christmas carnival: the transformation of Anelle into "the hottest ticket in town," while Truvy and her husband come to grips with his failed job, while Shelby comes to grips with telling her parents she's pregnant, while Ouiser and Clairee argue over the radio station/football game, and of course, while it is all so serious, the Miss Merry Christmas pageant continues and we see why the winner gets dethroned (with her tinsel down around knees) and her brother has his first gay experience by the gumbo booth. I joke, but if this happens, I'll expect a "based on a concept by" credit.

How about a Smallfoot show? Really good movie from Warner Animation! Judt needs new songs from the Kirkpatrick Bros and puppets

Someone mentioned a Love, Simon musical, and that would probably have potential.

The latest A Star is Born. It already has a strong set of songs written by a respected singer/songwriter (Lady Gaga) and a fanbase from the movie.

This is probably a dumb idea for a Broadway show, but I would love for Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes on stage. Very campy film that already has a few solid songs. It could be very Xanadu/Spamlot-like, with the show playfully being tongue-in-cheek with the source material while also appreciating it at the same time. Also more theatre related jokes. Again this would be better off-B'way and then would be great for regional/local productions.

I wish producers would take chances on writers' original ideas, but I wouldn't be surprised if they keep working through the rom coms and teen movies. I can see 10 Things I Hate About You and Easy A being tried.

I think Brooklyn, the 2015 film based on the novel, could make a good musical. Though come to think of it, maybe it would need a different name. The score could use Irish and Italian influences as well as 1950s styles.

I hope this is good, but I think they missed an opportunity here. The screenplay was written by Aline Brosh McKenna, who's just collaborated with Rachel Bloom on the musical TV series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. That pair could have written an adaptation that was genuinely hilarious and cutting. I think the new musical writing team will have their work cut out for them keeping the movie's bite without Meryl Streep in the role.

I am truly shocked Love Actually hasn’t happened yet, though it had a multimedia concert experience last year. But who would write it? To me, this feels like a Tim Minchin project.

I don't know about a movie which hasn't been mentioned here already, but I can totally see Ryan Murphy bringing Glee season 1-2 arc to broadway at some point.

"Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" will probably get a musical treatment at some point. I know there was some talk about 20 years ago, but nothing happened.

Isn't that being made into an unofficial musical parody soon? An official one would be nice, or well anything from Minchin. With GD he proves he has a good chance of turning any property into a great musical, so I'm on board with anything he does.

I'm shocked that My Cousin Vinny hasn't happened yet, it seems almost perfect for a musical adaptation. The Biological Clock song where they just pile stakes on the case would be amazing.

I feel like Hateful 8 is already pretty close to a stage play. Give it a creepy, folksy score it could be brilliant.

That old Astaire and Rogers hit, "SWING TIME"  with the best African-American musical actor who could do the Bojangles number and get cheers, not jeers.

Paul McCartney is supposedly writing a score for '"It's a Wonderful Life". Perfect project for the stage, but I can't believe McCartney will be the best composer for it.

Technically this has already been adapted into a musical, but it'd be nice if it had more songs and actually made it to broadway. That show is The Bridge to Terabithia. It is such a beautiful movie that I wish more people got to experience. I would also love for the Disney Channel movie Lemonade Mouth to become a Broadway musical.

EdEval, FWIW there was a stage adaptation of 'Swing Time' back in 2003 called 'Never Gonna Dance', but apparently it was a flop. Maybe someday somebody will give adapting the film another try.

Slight tangent, but I really love the 'Pick Yourself Up' scene from the film, in which Fred is pretending to be a bad dancer so as to get a lesson with Ginger's pretty dance teacher. For those who haven't seen the number:

If The Devil Wears Prada does indeed come to the stage, fingers crossed the lead character is more of a blatant Anna Wintour ripoff than the alterations Meryl Streep made for film (gray bouffant hair), changes Streep no doubt made so the Wintour parody wouldn't be too pronounced.

Hannah Cruz has posted about wanting Girl Interrupted to be a thing also. I’ll sweeten the pot: first mainstream theatrical score by Amanda Palmer?

I would die. It's such a moving film, I could only imagine the story put to a score.

This past weekend, I got together with 8 friends that had seen the most recent Cooper / Gaga version of the story. About half of them had never seen the 1954 version. That’s the one we watched.

When the movie was over, it was pretty unanimous (6 to 2) that the Garland version was a definitive classic and that the Gaga version (which I enjoyed), was last year’s news...

If anyone needs to know, audience was comprised of 3 females and 5 men. 50% gay, 50% straight.

Is this scientific? Hell, no...just interesting to a point.

i believe the score to the 1954 film would make for a far better musical than this latest incarnation. However, I see no good reason to put this on the stage.

Okay, but what about “Holes”?

… "If only, if only, " the woodpecker sighs,
"The bark on the trees was as soft as the skies, "
As the wolf waits below, hungry and lonely,
He cries to the moo-oo-oon, "If only, if only."…
