I know of no one who has proclaimed Red Sparrow (2018) as a cinematic masterpiece but Jennifer Lawrence was hellahot in it. I bought the streaming version a couple of days ago and have watched it 4 times already. The movie had so much potential but like Atomic Blonde (2017) before it coasted on the leading actress' box office cachet & costuming.
I actually liked Atomic Blonde a lot. Exciting, lots of great fight sequences, interesting plot, some hot girl on girl, etc, I thought it was very good even though I don't much care much for Charlize Theron as a person. But be clear, you;re not watching a so-so movie over and over. You're watching JLaw's boobs and butt over and over. And there ain't nothing wrong with that.
It Runs In The Family - Michael/Kirk/Cameron Douglas and Bernadette Peters. And I watch it because she's in it. I can't say the movie is any good. Cameron Douglas' acting in it is appalling - horrible. As is Kirk Douglas. I assume he was one of the great actors of his day? But I believe he had suffered a stroke prior to its filming because he sounded like he did. And Michael Douglas' real life mother has a supporting role in it. Michael Douglas is just okay in the role. But I love Bernadette Peters and I watch it because of her. I have it on dvd.
Although I wouldn't call it a so-so movie, I have to watch Cat Ballou, anytime it's on. Everytime Cat (Jane Fonda) says you won't make me cry, I tear up instantly. I love the title song sung by Nat King Cole and Stubby Kaye.
THE HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY -- whenever it's on cable I usually give it a look, usually to check out Martin Freeman's take on Arthur Dent, and the production design, and Stephen Fry's voice-work as The Book. I have to work really hard to overlook Sam Rockwell's misconceived Zaphod Beeblebrox, and most damagingly of all, the utter incompetence of that Mos Def person trying to play Ford Prefect -- but even they can't quite entirely screw up Douglas Adams' work.

A couple of decades ago Fresh Horses was my go-to bad weather movie. It stars Molly Ringwald and Andrew McCarthy as two unlikely star-crossed lovers and attempts to explore class divide along with regional stereotypes. Ringwald saves it from being a complete turkey. Her character reminds me of someone from my own past which probably explains the movie's appeal on some level. A review is available here.
sabre, I strongly object to “Nobody’s Fool” as a so-so movie! It’s tremendous. And while Paul Newman’s great performance is unquestionably its center, I think both Willis and Griffith do very, very fine work in it.

A few years ago, one Saturday morn, I woke up and discovered BURLESQUE was about to start. I watched it. Later that evening, just as I was preparing for bed, I discovered BURLESQUE was about to start again. I watched it again. I f*cking love BURLESQUE.
Mysterious Growl I think it is the story I find mediocre. The "frienemies" bit with Willis struck me as false esp the dog bit and then when Toby- does what she does.
I mean yes it's Paul Newman but he was 37 yrs older than Mel/Toby!
I know he was having a problem with the fact that the industry kept sending him romantic leads with women young enough to be his daughters in fact he stopped working for a few years to show he was serious about becoming a character actor.
There were elements that were too cutesy and I didn't buy but I did love the Family reunion aspect so- that's my take
I call them flu movies. When I'm in bed and not 100% there are these movies that you can catch 20 minutes of, fall asleep, wake up half an hour later and pick it right back up. My #1 flu movie is Love Actually. I think I've seen it once all the way through, and 30 times in bits and pieces while on Nyquil.
Other good flu movies:
Soapdish
Wild Wild West
Pitch Black
Ghosts of Mars
Lifeforce
And any of the multi-part made for TV Stephen King adaptations
Forces of Nature While You Were Sleeping It Could Happen to You The Legend of Billie Jean (fair is fair!) Good News! Too Many Girls Earth Girls are Easy The Long Kiss Goodnight Blonde Venus

So many, hundreds, usually westerns or war movies. She Wore A Yellow Ribbon or maybe Chisum, bad movies, with bad history. War Wagon, or the man who shot Liberty Valance.
