I think the only way a Chorus Tony could work if it was as a Special Tony, and not a competitive category (with the option of not having to award it every year). The chorus of Dolly deserved something like this. But it needs to be awarded to an ensemble that truly stands out.
I’m still angry at my aunt for choosing the Phantom your over this for us to see when I was 15. Love the score, and would love a revival. There was supposed to be a production of it here in Seattle this Spring, but it was cancelled. The only other production done here recently split Aurora amongst several women. Ain’t nobody got time for that!

A bad omen for what? The show not selling out? It’s a subscription house. Someone probably exchanged their seats.

I haven’t seen the Boys in the Band film in a long time, but I’m pretty sure it’s faithful to the play. If you just watched bits and pieces you might be missing what makes the play so important and moving. Maybe try watching it all the way through or reading the play.
I also think the words “stereotypical” and “Cliche” have often been unfairly applied to this play. Those kind of gay men did and still exist. I think it taps into some important issues that we still struggle with. I als
