American composer and pianist Martin Hennessy will debut his new opera, a musical adaption of Oscar Wilde's 'The Young King,' in a staged reading on February 10, 2017 at The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at the University of Maryland. The son to a family of goat herders, a young boy is found to be heir to the kingdom. Riches and luxury are laid at his feet, but at what cost are they to others? The opera addresses universal questions of wealth and income inequality.

New Adaptation of GREAT EXPECTATIONS Heads to Everyman Theatre's Stage

Everyman Theatre brings Charles Dickens' classic novel to the stage in a dynamic adaptation by Gale Childs Daly. Hailed as "tight and suspenseful" by the Chicago Tribune, Daly's adaptation of Great Expectations masterfully condenses Dickens 500-page novel into a high-spirited play where only six actors portray more than 35 characters. The show is currently in rehearsal and runs from February 1 through March 5, 2017.

I had never heard of the Baltimore Theatre Project. As someone who fancies herself pretty up on the theater scene in the area, I was very surprised that it had never been on my radar. The Baltimore Theatre Project is a small regional theater located in the arts district of Baltimore City.

Mamma Mia! is actually more of a revue than a story-driven show, despite sporting the accouterments of the latter. And none of that mattered a damn to the faithful gathered at the Hippodrome last night. They got what they came for, especially in the curtain call segment where the mask of a story dropped altogether, and the cast just performed three ABBA songs including the inevitable one, Waterloo, which did not even qualify as a reprise. But no one left the auditorium; everyone was on their feet, clapping and singing along.
Prince George's Little Theatre to Produce the Area Premiere of Sean Grennan's THE TIN WOMAN

Prince George's Little Theatre will produce the area premiere of Sean Grennan's "The Tin Woman" at the Bowie Playhouse from January 13 - 28.  All Friday performances and Today performances January 13 and 21 are at 8 pm.  The Sunday performances January 15 and 22 and the closing performance Today January 28 are 2 pm matinees.  The play is directed by Estelle Miller and produced by Roy Peterson.

Inspired by true events and based on the acclaimed 1997 documentary of the same name by S. R. Bindler, Hands on a Hardbody follows 10 hard-luck Texans searching for a new lease on life. Under a scorching sun for days on end, armed with nothing but hope, humor and ambition, each contestant fights to keep at least one hand on a brand-new truck in order to win it. In the hilarious, hard-fought contest that is Hands on a Hardbody, only one winner can drive away with American Dream.

Hollywood 1932- Prohibition will soon be going out but the Will Hays production code is coming in to watch over Hollywood movies for content not suitable for the American Public.During this time Billionaire Howard Hughes is producing a movie called SCARFACE about a fictional gangster with that name and has hired famed writer Ben Hecht to write the screenplay.  What would happen if a certain real gangster of that time gets wind of the project and sends some 'associates' of his to visit Hecht and see how close the story is to the real SCARFACE's life. A VISIT FROM SCARFACE takes that idea and brings real and fictional characters to a Hollywood Hotel suite one afternoon to see what might have happen on a typical madcap day in Hollywood.
