For its fourth consecutive year, Adventure Theatre MTC Academy will award over $25,000+ in scholarships to young performing arts students in the Montgomery County and Washington, D.C. area for its Summer Musical Theater Training Program and Summer Musical Theater Camp. ATMTC Academy endeavors to ensure no student is ever turned away for their inability to pay. For information about scholarships, call 301-251-5766.

The majority of the scholarship money grants access to Adventure Theatre MTC's Summer Musical Theater Training. Led by highly experienced working, Helen Hayes awarded/nominated, professional Teaching Artists, this intensive training program is committed to the development of the next generation of performers by providing focused instruction in an immersive musical theater environment.

The remainder of the scholarship money is focused on low-income students seeking to experience a two-week musical theater day camp with a final performance on Adventure Theatre's stage in Glen Echo Park.

These scholarships are designed to encourage and support outstanding performing arts students who have the work ethic and commitment to succeed on the stage in their academic or professional career regardless of their ability to pay. Scholarship auditions will be held on Friday, April 21 from 5-8pm and Saturday, May 13 from 2-4pm. Scholarship award winners will be announced by May 17, 2017.

Summer Musical Theater Training Program award recipients will choose between the 2 style-specific sessions offered in summer 2017: On-Camera Musical Study (July 17- August 4, 2017) which includes instruction with Dean McFlicker, the NBC producer of The Voice and Contemporary Musical Theater Study with a Day Trip to NYC which includes a Masterclass with stars of the show School of Rock (August 7- 25, 2017). Student will be placed into a Company based on factors including ability, age, and experience. Companies will train together in technique-specific classes and will work collaboratively during the rehearsal process on assigned musical numbers, vignettes, and scenes to be presented on the last day of the session for family and friends.

Kathryn Hnatio Vicere, Education Director at ATMTC Academy, says of the program, "Musicals are truly an all-American art form and we have devoted our time to teaching these young students the techniques for them to succeed, whether it's on a professional stage or in a high school audition. It's not a talent search; it's an opportunity for students to develop the skills to become the best performer they can be."

ATMTC students leave the program with a drive to succeed in taking their dreams to Broadway. Alumni attend the top collegiate musical theatre programs, and have gone on to succeed in regional, national, and Broadway productions. Among our most successful alumni include Caroline Bowman (Elphaba, Wicked Broadway; Evita, Evita National Tour), Nick Blaemire (Plankton, Spongebob Squarepants Broadway; Playwright and actor, Glory Days Broadway), and current student Cole Edelstein (Matilda Broadway).
