Background

? Located in central Melbourne (between Flinders Lane and Flinders Street and running parallel with Russell Street), Hosier Lane, along with its cobbled 'anabranch' Rutledge Lane, first came to prominence as a venue for street art in the 1990s. Since then, the walls of the lanes have functioned as an unsanctioned, self-moderated exhibition site for local and visiting international street artists. More recently some of the lane's residents and commercial tenants have, along with artists and artistic advisors, formed a management group, Hosier Inc. The aims of Hosier Inc. are to ensure that the unique qualities of the precinct, including its high-profile reputation and history, are respected while ensuring its amenity issues are met. Land of Sunshine, Invurt and Just Another have worked with Hosier Inc. on this initiative.
