Tom O'Neil, author of the LA Times Gold Derby column, has revealed that fan favorite, Neil Patrick Harris, has just been granted a third 2010 Primetime Emmy nomination for his performance as the 2009 Tony Awards host in the category of Special-Class Program.  Why the delay, as nominees were announced on July 8?  An oversight, according to O'Neil.

Once upon a time, hosts of award shows competed in a unique variety performance category, which was eliminated from the Emmy program last year.  Now, recognized hosts of awards and variety shows receive their nominations alongside the producers of a nominated broadcast in the category of Special-Class Program.  As usual, the 2009 Tony Awards program has been nominated for best Special Class Program (the program has, in fact, won the prize in 2005, 2007 and 2008), but absent from the list of accompanying nominees was host Neil Patrick Harris, due to an alleged accidental omission of Harris' name by Tonycast producers.

The Situation has now been rectified and Harris has received his Best Host of a Special-Class Program nomination.  As previously announced, he is also nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actory in a Comedy for 'How I Met Your Mother' and Outstanding Guest Actor in Comedy for his spot on GLEE.  See below for a full list of the 2010 Emmy nominees.

The 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards will air live coast to coast on August 29 (8-11 p.m. EST) on NBC and will originate from the Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles. The awards will be produced by Don Mischer and hosted by Jimmy Fallon.
