At the end of last week's OUTLANDER, Dougal Mackenzie promised us a road trip, and this week, we got it. Just so you don't get the wrong impression, Dougal's idea of a road trip doesn't include kicking your feet up on the dashboard, singing along to the Spice Girls at an obnoxious volume, or making a McDonald's pit stop on the Jersey Turnpike. The purpose of this trip is very much the journey, not the destination, as Dougal represents the Laird in collecting rent from the residents of surrounding villages. It's a good opportunity for Claire to finally get outside of Castle Leoch and maybe even make a run for it to Craigh na Dun, but as always, the Sassenach must be cautious. (more...)

The five-time Grammy-winning San Francisco Girls Chorus-Lisa Bielawa, Artistic Director, and Valerie Sainte-Agathe, Music Director and Principal Conductor-- will present two holiday concerts,December 6 and 22 at First Congregational Church in Berkeley and Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco, respectively. The 40-voice San Francisco Girls Chorus will present "Noel, Noel" Friday, December 6, at 8 pm at First Congregational featuring holiday favorites and an audience sing-along. These 40 award-winning young artists will be joined by the full complement of nearly 400 members of the San Francisco Girls Chorus School, from ages 5 to 18, for the annual Davies Hall holiday extravaganza, Sunday, December 22, at 8 pm. This year's edition, entitled "Hark, the Herald Angels Swing!" will feature the Marcus Shelby Quintet and Shelby's new arrangements of "Go Tell It On The Mountain" and "Hark the Herald" written especially for the San Francisco Girls Chorus plus other seasonal favorites and an audience sing-along. Delray Beach Chorale to perform VOICES OF THE SEASON, 12/5 & 7

The Delray Beach Chorale's holiday concert, Voices of the Season, will feature the 60-voice Chorale accompanied by a professional instrumental ensemble. They will perform a selection of choruses and solos (sung by their Artist-in-Residence professionals) from Handel's Messiah, as well as a number of seasonal favorites, including "Hark the Herald Angels Sing", "Away in A Manger", "Do You Hear What I Hear", "Silent Night" (sung in German), and two Hanukah favorites, "Bashana Haba'ah" (sung in Hebrew), and "Festival of Flame". Patrick Lung Kong will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from Tsui Hark to open this nine-film series, with rare titles screened for the first time in New York. Drawing from a rich legacy of Cantonese films, while promoting a strong sense of singularity through his formal inventiveness, director Patrick Lung Kong (b. 1935) had a profound impact on following generations of filmmakers, including John Woo and Tsui Hark, and remains widely acknowledged as one of the great pioneers of Hong Kong cinema. To pay tribute to the achievements of this prodigious filmmaker, Museum of the Moving Image will present Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow: The Cinema of Patrick Lung Kong, a nine-film screening series featuring rare titles imported from Hong Kong, from August 15 through 24, 2014. Sundance Institute announced today the members of the six juries awarding prizes at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, January 16-26 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah. Short Film Awards will be announced at a ceremony on January 21 at Park City's Jupiter Bowl. Feature film awards will be announced at a separate ceremony on January 25 in Park City, hosted by husband-and-wife duo Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally and livestreamed at www.sundance.org/live. Offerman headlines the film Nick Offerman: American Ham in the Festival's Premieres section.
