The People's Prince is Phil Dunning's debut hour at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. With a vast range of characters and a separate suitcase just for his wigs it had the potential to be a really interesting show.

Opening as a lounge singer, Dunning takes us through a variety of characters including a fashion model, Jackie, who works in Boots, The Lion King and a Game Of Thrones-style sketch. Unfortunately, he's just not very funny. The material is completely random and while I have seen comedy shows in that format work brilliantly before, The People's Prince just falls flat.

Most of the character sketches are mercifully short. When Dunning hits the mark, he has some decent material but it is overshadowed by sketches that are almost painful to watch.

Phil Dunning: The People's Prince runs at the Pleasance Courtyard until 28 August.
