For a strictly-limited two week run (1-13 September), this exciting new revival will play the intimate London Theatre Workshop with a talented and versatile cast of 13 actors in multiple roles. This ambitious new production stars Ross Barnes (Carousel Opera North, Little Shop of Horrors, White Bear/Landor) as Leo Frank and Lily De-La-Haye as Lucille Frank. Daniel Holley and Kerry Loosemore play the roles of Frankie Epps and Mary Phagan respectively. Daniel was recently featured on Britain's Got Talent as a member of the 'Kingdom Tenors' and Kerry makes her professional debut. (more...)

RALEIGH, N.C. – North Carolina Opera has joined the consortium co-commissioning and co-producing the new opera COLD MOUNTAIN, with music by Pulitzer Prize winning composer Jennifer Higdon and libretto by the renowned Gene Scheer. Based on Charles Frazier's wildly successful 1997 novel COLD MOUNTAIN (which sold over four million copies and won the National Book Award for fiction) this North Carolina story tells of the long journey homeward of Confederate soldier Inman to his love, Ada. A Letter to Harvey Milk, has a book by Jerry James, Cheryl Stern and Laura I. Kramer, lyrics by Ellen M. Schwartz with additional lyrics by Cheryl Stern, and music by Laura I. The National New Play Network, the country's alliance of nonprofit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, announced its 2015-16 grant recipients, including the Smith Prize for Political Theatre, the 2015 Annual Commission, two Playwright Residencies, five Producer Residencies, and two Collaboration Fund awards that will support partnership between eight of its members on two productions. In all, NNPN committed over $125,000 to fourteen Core Member Theaters and nine Affiliated Artists. (more...)

Unexpected Opera returns to St James Studio this summer with more of its popular singing chat shows. The series will begin on 21st May with Traviata Tells All, in which high society courtesan Violetta Valery, heroine of Verdi's best-loved opera La Traviata, is a guest on Brooklyn mobster Tony LaScala's TV chat show. Arias and scenes from the opera are woven seamlessly into the conversations. David Hayes, who leads both groups, will conduct the performance of these two masterpieces, both of which are inspired by profound historic events and celebrate the strength and resilience of the American spirit.
