Opera North has announced the principal roles for Tosca, one of its three 2016 mainstage productions. Soprano Sandra Lopez will play the title role of Tosca, while baritones Jeff Gwaltney and Aleksey Bogdanov will play Cavaradossi and Scarpia, respectively. The Adelphi Orchestra, celebrating its 62nd season of 'Music for All'  presents a Grand Mother's Day concert Sunday May 8th in New Jersey. 'Wagner Masterworks: Tristan und Isolde: Prelude and Liebestod and Die Walkure : Act 1.' The Wagner Masterworks Mother's Day concert will be the first of two performances, held on consecutive weekends, the second performance to take place in NYC at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music.  The Adelphi Orchestra's special  Mother's Day performance of Wagner Masterworks is free and open to the public -  the first 50 individuals to reserve their seats through Eventbrite will receive a complimentary long stem rose at the concert for their Mother. The Everyman & Playhouse will spread Liverpool's cultural name beyond the city region again this year with a series of major collaborations. Working with Shakespeare's Globe to mark the bard's 400th anniversary year the theatres will co-produce The Two Gentlemen of Verona, directed by Associate Nick Bagnall which tours nationally and internationally before dates at the Everyman. Alumnus Jonathan Pryce leads the cast of The Globe's The Merchant of Venice at the Playhouse ahead of a world tour. The theatres will also co-produce Frank McGuinness's Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme with Headlong, Abbey Theatre, Dublin and Citizens Theatre, Glasgow at the Playhouse in June ahead of a national tour. Maestro Christopher Seaman leads the Hawai'i Symphony Orchestra (HSO) in a Sunday afternoon of French Romance featuring popular masterworks by French composers Saint-Saens and Franck, and the HSO debut of violinist Tessa Lark on March 20 at 4 pm. The winner of the prestigious Naumburg International Violin Award, Lark will perform the Saint-Saens Violin Concerto No.3 in B Minor. Lark, who is praised by critics and audiences alike for her astounding range of sounds, technical agility and musical elegance, was named the Silver Medalist of the 2014 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, making her the highest-ranked American-born winner in the Competition's history. To add an international twist, the HSO's French Romance program opens with a masterwork from across the English Channel, Britten's Variations and Fugue on a Theme of Purcell - better known as the 'Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra.' ?The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, in collaboration with the Manhattan School of Music and Oratorio Society of New York, presents the world premiere of a transcription for organ, vocal soloists, and choruses, of Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 8, on Thursday, April 7th, at 7:30 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, 1047 Amsterdam Avenue (at 112th Street), Manhattan. After an international search, Houston Grand Opera (HGO) has chosen three new singers and one new pianist/coach for the 2016-17 HGO Studio. The artists are Yelena Dyachek, soprano, the Ana Maria Martinez Encouragement Award recipient at Concert of Arias 2016;  Zoie Reams, mezzo-soprano, the second-place prize winner at Concert of Arias 2016;  Sol Jin, baritone, the Audience Choice Award winner at Concert of Arias 2016; and Peter Walsh, pianist/coach. One of the most respected and highly competitive young artist programs in the world, the HGO Studio provides comprehensive career development to young singers, pianist/coaches, and conductors who have demonstrated potential to make major contributions to the field of opera. The HGO Studio received applications from 475 artists; of those, about 275 were heard in auditions in Houston, New York, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, and Los Angeles. For singers, the audition process culminates in HGO's annual Eleanor McCollum Competition for Young Singers, held this year on February 4. (more...)

Horrocks, star of LITTLE VOICE, performs with a live band and company of dancers directed and choreographed by Collins, who was responsible for Bend It Like Beckham's choreography and music staging. IF YOU KISS ME, KISS ME, which conjures the rebel spirit, disillusionment and messy relationships of the UK's 1970s-80s music scene, hits the Young Vic's main house on March 10 and opens on March 16, running until April 16.
