CM Teens to Present LES MISERABLES, 11/17-24
I still remember it like it was yesterday, making sure I had everything needed for the final call backs for the CM Teens Production of Les Miserables, and then I got the call. A phone call that no one was prepared to get, Noel S Ruiz, the founder and executive director of the CM Performing Arts Center had passed away.
This was such a devastating loss to the entire theater community on Long Island.
But as they say, "the show must go on". The following day, Carmela Newman (musical director) and myself had to sit through perhaps the hardest call backs we have ever had to listen to, I mean you could imagine how hard hearing songs like "I Dreamed a Dream", "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables", and "Bring Him Home" would be given the circumstances.
After long hours of crying and recomposing ourselves, we had assembled perhaps the best teen cast CM has seen in years.
We are now half-way through the rehearsal process and I know how proud Noel would be of this cast. Having been part of the CM Teens when I was younger, in years past, our theater has been known for our CM Teens productions of the Les Miserables Student Edition. This year however, the teens are doing the full production that is currently running on our Mainstage.
Among this star studded cast of talented young adults is:
Tommy Castelli as Jean Valjean
Liam Attridge as Javert
Sarah Juliano as Fantine
Tommy Ranieri as Marius
Gabby Kalomiris as Eponine
Bella Ferraro as Cosette
James Collins as Thenardier
Kaytie Barry as Madame T
James Vaughan as Enjolras
Melanie Jolley as Young Cosette
Sebastian Jolley as Gavroche
Of course this show would not be possible without PatRick Grossman who Directed the Main Stage production and has been with me every step of the way in bringing Noel's vision to reality, and Carmela Newman who is perhaps the best Musical Director I have ever worked with.
The CM Teens Production opens Sunday 11/17 at 7PM and closes Sunday 11/24 at 7PM with in between performances on Wednesday 11/20 at 7:30PM, and Saturday 11/23 at 2PM. For more information, visit www.CMPAC.com.
