Now Playing Onstage in Delaware - Week of 5/11/2014 THE STEEL WHEELS
The Grand Wilmington
5/15-5/15/2014
The Steel Wheels have enthralled audiences across the country with their heady brew of original soulful mountain music. Based in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, this dynamic band marries old-time musical traditions with their own innovative sound. Trent Wagler's weathered tenor is joined by bell-clear four-part harmonies inspired by a shared Mennonite heritage. Add to this Eric Brubaker's lively and evocative fiddle, Brian Dickel's grounded yet buoyant upright bass, and Jay Lapp's signature mandolin style, and it's no surprise that The Steel Wheels have burst onto the Americana scene, becoming festival favorites and selling out venues across the country. "Americana music at its very best!" said Larry Groce of Mountain Stage

Now Playing Onstage in Delaware - Week of 5/11/2014 A TRIBUTE TO THE MARVELETTES & THE DRIFTERS
Schwartz Center for the Arts
5/17-5/17/2014
We conclude our 12th season with Linwood Peel's tribute to The Marvelettes and Drifters, two of the most influential artists in the early days of soul. The Drifters are truly unique in today's world of coming and going popular music groups. From their very first release on Atlantic records, "There goes My Baby", they were bound for stardom with a 2 million seller under their belts in their first try. Over the next 10 years there were 29 additional chart records, accounting for nearly 20 million sales of singles and over 8 million albums in the US alone. In fact, only the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Bee Gees have sold more records over a more sustained period of time. Although The Marvelettes have not been inducted into The Hall of Fame yet, they are the sixth most successful all female recording act. They are one of only 21 acts in the last 25 years whose first record sold over 1 million and went number 1, of which only 2 of those acts were female ensembles. Together, they will transport your audience with hits like "Under the Boardwalk" "On Broadway" and "Please, Mr. Postman", among others. This will truly be "This Magic Moment." So please, "Save the Last Dance For Me!"

Now Playing Onstage in Delaware - Week of 5/11/2014 CINDERELLA
St. Elizabeth High School
5/16-5/17/2014
The timeless enchantment of a magical fairy tale is reborn with the Rodgers & Hammerstein hallmarks of originality, charm and elegance. Originally presented on television in 1957 starring Julie Andrews, Rodgers & Hammerstein's CINDERELLA was the most widely viewed program in the history of the medium. Its recreation in 1965 starring Lesley Ann Warren was no less successful in transporting a new generation to the miraculous kingdom of dreams-come-true, and so was a second remake in 1997, which starred Brandy as Cinderella and Whitney Houston as her Fairy Godmother. As adapted for the stage, with great warmth and more than a touch of hilarity, the hearts of children and adults alike still soar when the slipper fits.Music by Rodgers, Richard; Book by Oscar Hammerstein II; Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II

Now Playing Onstage in Delaware - Week of 5/11/2014 THE MUSIC MAN
THE EVERETT INC
5/9-5/18/2014
An affectionate paean to Smalltown, U.S.A. of a bygone era, Meredith Willson's THE MUSIC MAN follows fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys' band he vows to organize - this despite the fact he doesn't know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain's fall. Perfect for professional theatres, community groups, summer stock and schools alike, this award-winning, critically acclaimed Broadway classic is an all-American institution, thanks to is quirky characters, charmingly predictable dramatic situations, and one-of-a-kind, nostalgic score of rousing marches, barbershop quartets and sentimental ballads which have become popular standards. The cast features a soaring soprano ingenue, parts for young performers and children, and one of the musical theatre's treasures, a tour de force leading role for a charismatic actor who doesn't need to be a trained singer. By turns wicked, funny, warm, romantic and touching, THE MUSIC MAN is family entertainment at its best.
