(4/17/2014) - In celebration of outstanding achievement in high school musical theater performances, Broadway In Chicago is thrilled to announce the twenty-four finalists for the Third Annual Illinois High School Musical Theater Awards. The finalists (12 young actors & 12 young actresses) have been invited to participate in the Awards program, which will be held at the Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place (175 E. Chestnut St.) on Friday, April 25, 2014.

(4/17/2014) - A full schedule is now available for Let's Get Working, a new three-day festival honoring the life and work of Chicago legend Studs Terkel at the University of Chicago's Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, 915 E. 60th Street, Chicago. Let's Get Working explores Terkel's legacy while showcasing individuals and groups from Chicago and beyond who have been influenced and inspired by Terkel's work as a broadcaster, historian, actor, and Pulitzer Prize-winning author. All events are free and open to the public.

(4/17/2014) - Interrobang Theatre Project has announced its 2014/15 Sseason! Bridging continents and 43 years of theatre history, ITP's 5th Season brings together the first professionally produced plays that launched the careers of two distinctive contemporary playwrights: OWNERS (1972) by the now legendary, groundbreaking British playwright Caryl Churchill and REALLY REALLY (2013) by the tenacious 27-year-old American playwright Paul Downs Calaizzo. These two productions share a common concern with issues of power, entitlement, politics, economics and gender and their critically acclaimed premieres heralded Churchill and Calaizzo, respectively, as writers to watch, bold new voices with their fingers of the pulse of their generation.

(4/16/2014) - American Theater Company announces a new partnership with The Araca Group (Broadway producers of Urinetown, Frankie and Johnny in the Claire de Lune, The Wedding Singer, Lend Me a Tenor, and A View From the Bridge, among others) in the development of new American plays in Chicago. The two organizations will partner to produce AracaWorks: Chicago, a weekend of readings of world premiere American plays from August 7-9, 2014 in Chicago. One of the three plays will receive a year of development, including a workshop production the following summer at ATC.

(4/16/2014) - The Chicago Humanities Festival (CHF) celebrates 15 years of presenting international children's theater with the 2014 Stages, Sights & Sounds festival, May 6-24 in Chicago. This year's Stages, Sights & Sounds will feature inaugural productions from Australia and Spain, including the quirky toy-centric Fluff from Sydney's Cre8ion, the climate change tale of The Adventures of Alvin Sputnik: Deep Sea Explorer from Perth's The Last Great Hunt, and the object driven Animales from Madrid's El Retablo, featuring master puppeteer Pablo Vergne. The festival will also include the U.S. premiere of Kaguya: The Bamboo Princess and other Stories by returning puppet artist Nori Sawa (Japan/Czech Republic). Additionally, Stages, Sights & Sounds will introduce several new programs, including readings with children's book authors Timothy Basil Ering and Jon Scieszka, and the Chicago Puppetolio.
