(7/30/2014) - The Gift Theatre artistic director Michael Patrick Thornton announces the Chicago premiere of Bethany written by Laura Marks and directed by Marti Lyons, who previously collaborated on Mine last season at The Gift. Bethany features Gift ensemble members Hillary Clemens (Mine), Paul D'Addario (Thinner Than Water) and James D. Farruggio (Northwest Highway) with guest artists Mary Anne Bowman (last seen in Backstage Theatre's production of A Scent of Flowers), Susaan Jamshidi (Theater Wit's Seven Homeless Mammoths Wander New England) and Kirby O'Connell (founding member of The Gift's Natural Gas).

(7/30/2014) - Polarity Ensemble Theatre will award the 2014 Dionysos Cup to Chicago playwright Kristiana Rae Colon for her new play OCTAGON, which is set in the world of slam poetry competitions. The play was selected as one of four finalist plays to be developed in Polarity's annual Dionysos Cup Festival of New Plays. Over seventy plays by Chicago-area playwrights were submitted to the festival. Finalist plays were selected by committee and the winning play voted upon by audience members and Polarity staff. OCTAGON was also recently awarded the Arizona Latino Playwrights Award that carries a prize of $1000.

The extremely limited engagement is co-created by Rick Bayless, Lookingglass Ensemble Member Heidi Stillman (Hephaestus, The Brothers Karamazov, Hard Times), and Artistic Associate and founder of Silverguy Entertainment Tony Hernandez (Hephaestus, Lookingglass Alice). (7/29/2014) - Victory Gardens Theater hosts Small Fish Radio Theatre and Thespinarium for a one-night-only performance of the radio adaptation of Mercury Considers the Last Layer, written and directed by Trina Kakacek. Mercury Considers the Last Layer is a melodramatic romp, set in the dualistic world of burlesque, which follows the age-old quest of finding one's heart and one's self. Mercury was developed in the Victory Gardens Access Project Artist Development Workshop, with the lead male role written for actor, writer and Thespinariam Michael Herzovi. This special performance, which includes open captioning and American Sign Language interpretation, is meant for a mature audience. The performance is Sunday, August 3, 2014 at 7:30PM in the Zacek-McVay Theater at the Victory Gardens Biograph, 2433 N. Lincoln Avenue in Lincoln Park.

(7/30/2014) - Seize the Stage: A Musical Revue Benefit for Epilepsy is back for its fifth year, raising funds for Camp Blackhawk. Camp Blackhawk, a program of the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago, is an overnight camp for children with mild to severe epilepsy designed so they can experience activities, sports and friendships while in a safe and medically monitored setting. Over the past four years, the Seize the Stage concerts have raised more than $10,000 to help send children to Camp Blackhawk. Produced by Sammi Gassel, Kenzie Parry and Scott Spector, Seize the Stage features performers from the Chicago area.
