Despite a few teething issues, this reviewer thought I'M STILL FINE was an adventurous first step at cabaret from an established musical theater actor and looks forward to seeing what Mitchell does next.

Review: South Coast Repertory Presents World Premiere Play GALILEE, 34
Los Angeles: May 05, 2024

Eleanor Burgess’ brilliant, thoughtful, and often bitingly funny GALILEE, 34—currently having its impressive world premiere production at South Coast Repertory through May 12, 2024—is a humorously insightful, beautifully-performed new play that offers an unreliably revisionist examination of supposed events following Jesus Christ’s crucifixion.

Review: TRUE WEST at Arizona Theatre Company

TRUE WEST is the single greatest piece of live theater I have ever seen. Photo by Tim Fuller.

Review: LEWIS CAPALDI GOES TROPICAL, Oran Mor

Review: Tesseract Theatre Company's THE INHERITANCE PARTS 1 & 2 is a Gripping Triumphant Success
St. Louis: May 04, 2024

The Tesseract Theatre Company’s production of THE INHERITANCE was a marvelous accomplishment thanks to the genius direction of Stephen Peirick and the out-of-body performances he evoked from each member of his cast. Peirick took the more than 300 pages of Lopez’s wordy script and swiftly paced the production, making it so succinct that the time in the theater melted away as rapidly as a piece of satisfying chocolate on the tongue.   Peirick artfully blocked his well-rehearsed actors on his small set design consisting of two small risers surrounded by the three walls of the small black box theatre. Paintings of familiar New York City scenes representing The Bethesda Terrace Fountain and theatre marquees were interspersed with artwork of cherry blossoms adorning the side walls. Decorating the back wall were vines of cherry blossoms in a crisscross pattern reminiscent of a NYC subway map. He judiciously used the performance space to move his actors between NYC, the apartment interiors, and an upstate New York estate while maintaining a lively pace to his sensational storytelling.

Review: Jaye Maynard Delivers Beautiful Blossom Dearie Tribute at Chelsea Table And Stage

Chelsea Table and Stage was packed to the brim last Sunday evening for Jaye Maynard’s beautiful Blossom Dearie tribute show, BIRD AMONGST THE BLOSSOM. Review: YES THE MUSICAL at Dream Hotel
Nashville: May 04, 2024

Meanwhile, theater aficionados, bachelorette parties (aka “WOO! girls”), fun-seekers and all the assorted denizens of Music City’s Broadway district will be buying up all the sunglasses in order to protect their eyes from the over-the-top glitz and glamour provided by the physical production of Yes, A Musical Comedy’s theatrical magic and technical wizardry and the pure joy of Blaine Hopkins’ book and lyrics, Garrett Kotecki’s music and lyrics and Joel Waggoner’s everything else (including additional words and orchestrations) that make the show so entertaining, so delightful and, lord have mercy, so much fun!

Review: SWEAT at DreamWrights
Central Pennsylvania: May 04, 2024

Dreamwrights presents “Sweat” by Lynn Nottage under the direction of Cal Weary from May 3rd to May 11th. The York community will enjoy this deeply moving 2017 Pulitzer Prize winning play with it’s familiar Reading, PA setting. The talented cast addressed the difficult themes of the show including race, addiction, xenophobia, poverty, unions, scabs, regret, and friendship. The audience needed a minute at the end to digest the depth of the show and the multiple moving performances by the cast members. I was impressed with the cast’s acting ability to portray their characters with raw emotion and depth.

Review: KING LEAR, Riverside Studios
UK / West End: May 04, 2024

Cutting Shakespeare isn’t rare, with time restraint and accessible efficiency at the top of the list. What happens when you remove the text altogether, leaving only the bare bones of the story? Hong Kongese company Nonverbal Theatre of Gesture have the answer.
