The Almost Perfect Bank Robbery, Airing on "20/20," Friday, July 4 on ABC
A man's elaborate scheme to bilk hundreds of thousands of dollars from a Bank of America in Seattle could not have been better scripted in Hollywood. The meticulously planned crime was nearly perfect, and a man almost got away with floating down a river with $400,000 on an inflatable inner tube after a brazen broad daylight robbery of an armored truck. But the mastermind missed a critical detail. Anthony Curcio spent the last few years in prison paying for his crime and tells ABC News correspondent Gio Benitez all about it in an exclusive "20/20" interview. The once popular High School Football player turned robber takes us on a wild journey into the details of how it all went down. Anchored by Elizabeth Vargas and David Muir, "20/20" airs on FRIDAY, JULY 4 (10:00 - 11:00 pm ET) on the ABC Television Network. (OAD: 6/21/13)
Plus: With summer on the horizon, we are all ready to hit the water. Yet roughly 4,000 Americans drown each year, many at pools with a lifeguard present. "20/20" talks to former lifeguards who reveal the inside secrets from atop the lifeguard chair. Reena Ninan reports. (OAD: 5/9/14)
Additionally: Last Friday night, millions watched Barbara Walters' interview with Peter Rodger, the father of Elliot Rodger, the 22 year old who killed six people, injured 13, and then took his own life near the campus of the University of California, Santa Barbara last month. Now, "20/20" reports on the strong viewer reactions to the interview, and the questions viewers asked about mental health.
