Hugh Jackman & Anne Hathaway In THE DROWSY CHAPERONE? Barbra Streisand? Fred Schepisi Teases

Hugh Jackman & Anne Hathaway In THE DROWSY CHAPERONE? Barbra Streisand? Fred Schepisi TeasesIn a fascinating new interview, versatile director Fred Schepisi reveals new details on the forthcoming big screen edition of hit multi-Tony Award-winning musical THE DROWSY CHAPERONE and muses on casting for the film.

Schepisi states, "I'm going to do a musical called "The Drowsy Chaperone." It was on Broadway and is a fabulous musical that sort of takes the Mickey out of musicals, while enjoying being a musical."

Describing the plot, Schepisi says, "You're led through it by this lonely bugger who can't quite deal with the world, so he escapes into '20s musicals. He listens to them and they come to life for him."

As for casting, Schepisi comments, "We've got Geoffrey Rush in it, and Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway interested, and possibly Barbra Streisand. We'll see."

Of note, BroadwayWorld exclusively confirmed the feature film adaptation plans with creator Bob Martin last year, as reported here.

So, would you like to see a movie musical edition of THE DROWSY CHAPERONE starring Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway? What about the possibility of Barbra Streisand, as well?
