FIRST LOOK - New Photo of John Lloyd Young in JERSEY BOYS Film
PEOPLE has shared an exclusive photo from the highly anticipated big screen adaptation of the musical Jersey Boys, directed by Clint Eastwood. The film will be released in theaters nationwide on June 20, 2014.
John Lloyd Young will make his big screen debut as Frankie Valli, a role which earned him a Tony Award.
"To be making a movie in a lead role with [Clint Eastwood] as the director? I still can't believe it," the actor tells PEOPLE. "He's an icon, a very nice man and a very, very good director - but also real tough to read."
The 38-year-old says working in front of a camera is a very different experience from performing before a live theater audience. "The film is the follow-through of what you can imagine would happen when you see the show on stage: It goes deeper," he shares.
Fortunately for Young, he has received first hand advice from none other than Valli himself. "I've known Frankie since the original Broadway production, and I've learned a tenacity and fighting to get your talent out there, which he has never stopped doing his entire life," he explains. "One of the reasons people respond so well to his character in this show is because he's like a walking depiction of the American dream."
Joining Young in the cast are Renée Marino as Mary Delgado,Erich Bergen as Bob Gaudio,Christopher Walken as Gyp DeCarlo, Mike Doyle as Bob Crew, Joey Russo as Joe Pesci,Erica Piccininnias Lorraine,Donnie Kehr as Norm Waxman, Jeremy Luke as Donnie and Johnny Cannizzaro as Nick DeVito, and Kathrine Narducci as Mary Rinaldi.
