National Dance Institute (NDI) honored renowned celebrity chef and restaurateur, Marcus Samuelsson, and philanthropists Barbara & Donald Tober last night, April 28, 2014. Terrence Mann and Charlotte d'Amboise of the Tony Award-winning musical "Pippin" emceed the event. The evening featured special performances by the children of National Dance Institute and Charles "Lil' Buck" Riley. The 2014 Annual Gala raised over $1.2 million for arts education at the Best Buy Theater (1515 Broadway, NYC). (more...)

Performing at the Lincoln Center is the be-all and end-all for dancers. The stakes are high, the pressure is on, and everyone is watching you. This is what all dancers aspire to. Needless to say, my expectations were high going into the evening. So how did Ballet Preljocaj hold up to the pressure? They left me breathless. The outstanding company proved why this is the dream for dancers. Just when you think that dance has nothing new to offer, that every performance you see is the same old, same old, something like this comes along and restores your faith in dance. (more...)

The young dancers of Columbia University and Barnard College fell back and forth in dance repertory and dared to add their own voices to iconic works at the matinee performance at Miller Theatre, Saturday, April 26th, 2014. Each of the four works provided unique challenges: Andrea Miller's Fall Recover Recover tested their capacity for the essence of modern dance technique, Twyla Tharp's Treefrog in Stonehenge demanded the stamina of a jazzercise class, Martha Graham's Lamentation Variations asked students to reflect upon Graham's legacy with their own minds and bodies, and Robert La Fosse's Concerto for Mr. B thrust the dancers on to their toes. The Joyce Theater Foundation and The National Ballet of Canada are proud to present the New York premiere of Christopher Wheeldon's acclaimed production of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland at the David H. Koch Theater from September 9 - 14, 2014. This production, which had its world premiere by the Royal Ballet at London's Royal Opera House in 2011 and its North American premiere by the National Ballet in Toronto in 2011, will be the fourth Joyce Theater presentation at Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater following the just completed New York premiere of Ballet Preljocaj's Snow White (April 23-27, 2014).
