Photography Students' Work Now on View at COM Art Gallery Through 10/24

Look at the world through a different lens with the photography displayed at the COM Art Gallery through Oct. 24. Showcasing the work of photography students and educators from seven states, the exhibit is in conjunction with the Society for Photographic Education South Central Regional Conference. The conference focuses on the link between art and empathy, and society members submitted their current, cutting-edge work in the field for exhibition.

"Artists are conveying content and imbibing their photos with meaning so the viewer can interpret and take something away from the image," said Kristy Peet, COM photography professor and co-organizer of the exhibit. "The exhibit exposes photography students and enthusiasts to professional-level work in the field."

The free exhibit features the works of lens-based artists examining a variety of subjects. From images in shades of gray to vividly hued photographs, artists display their skill in portraying everyday life from a different angle. This exhibit is recommended for mature audiences due to nudity.

The College of the Mainland Art Gallery serves as a resource for the study of art and art history and presents works demonstrating contemporary standards of quality. Exhibitions include paintings, drawings, print media, sculpture, ceramics, mixed media, film, digital media (including movie and still photography) and site-specific installations that are culturally significant and creatively express personal views.
