2014 Kirkland Arts Center Artists' Exhibition Launches

Each summer, Kirkland Arts Center Gallery hosts the KAC Artists' Exhibition (formerly the KAC Members' Exhibition) to showcase the creativity and talent of KAC's community of artists. This year, the juror for the 2014 KAC Artists' Exhibition, Michael Monroe, has selected 38 pieces from 38 local artists in a variety of media.

"It was a great honor to have been invited to be the juror the Kirkland Art Center's 2014 Artists' Exhibition," Monroe explained. "I was as impressed with the quality of the entries. While competitions, by their very nature, can't be complete surveys of all the emerging and professional artists in a region, this exhibition plays a vital role in giving artists a high quality venue, especially in this era of ever shrinking opportunities for showing work."

Michael Monroe has been involved with the contemporary American studio craft movement for over 50 years. Prior to his current status as director emeritus of the Bellevue Arts Museum, Monroe served as its Director and Chief Curator. Other previous employment includes executive director of the American Craft Council, president of the Peter Joseph Gallery in New York City, and Curator-in-Charge at the Smithsonian American Art Museum's Renwick Gallery.

"The art in this exhibition announce themselves as objects of personal expression; they resound with the artist's confidence, verve, imagination and inventiveness," said Monroe of the work selected this year.

Join us at the Opening Reception on July 18, 6:00 - 8:30pm. Michael will reveal his top two juror awards and visitors will vote on the People's Choice Award. Drinks and light snacks will be served.
