VIDEO: 'MICE & MEN's James Franco Addresses Stage Door Controversy on LIVE: 'I Used Bad Judgement'
James Franco, currently starring in the Broadway revival of OF MICE AND MEN, has found himself in a bit of Internet trouble following a recent Instagram conversation between himself and a 17-year-old Scottish girl was leaked online.
Audience member Lucy Clode met Franco at the stage door following Tuesday evening's performance and took a video of the actor, who told her, "You gotta tag me." An alleged Instagram flirtation followed, with Franco asking questions such as, "When is your birthday? You're single? What's the hotel? Should I rent a room?"
Today, Franco appeared on LIVE with Kelly and Michael to address the situation. "I was just feeling awkward. I didn't want to come on the show and just feel awkward," he began. "I'm embarrassed and I guess I'm just a model of how social media is tricky. It's a way people meet each other today, but what I've learned -I guess just because I'm new to it- you don't know who's on the other end. You meet somebody in person and you get a feel for them, but you don't know who you're talking to. So, I used bad judgment and I learned my lesson."
He continued, "But, unfortunately in my position, I have a very good life, but not only do I have to go through the embarrassing kind of rituals of meeting someone, sometimes if I do that then it gets published for the world. So now it's doubly embarrassing."
