Big Noise Theatre Company presents Beau Jest January 14 through February 6, 2011 Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. at The Prairie Lakes Theater 515 E. Thacker Street, Des Plaines.

Local playwright James Sherman's romantic comedy tells the story of charming but pressured Sarah Goldman who weaves a tangled web to convince her parents that she's been dating a nice Jewish doctor. She hires Bob, an actor, to pretend to be her "beau." The masquerade works flawlessly for a time, but comic situations and further complications bring irrevocable changes to all their lives.

First presented Victory Gardens Theater in 1989, Beau Jest ran Off-Broadway for more than two and a half years. The initial review in the Chicago Reader stated "Sherman disciplines his facile wit, making it serve the more important elements of farce--tight storytelling and character development. The show's laughs--of which there are many--arise naturally, even at times gracefully, from the action."

Director Catherine Davis says, "I think the play has real characters that truly love each other and want what is best for each other. They will do whatever it takes to make each other happy, even at the risk of complicating their own lives--and that is where the humor ensues. The harder they try, the funnier it gets." She shares a unique connection to the material. "One of my closest friends is the inspiration for the lead character, even sharing the same last name. The author and my friend dated in high school so I felt especially close to these characters." Davis has enjoyed illustrating the Jewish elements in the play, but explains, "I am Jewish, as is the family in the play, but ethnicity is ethnicity and any close knit family or group can relate to the trials and tribulations the characters encounter".

Upon being cast, Sarah Sapperstein, who plays Sarah, commented, "I am Sarah--this role is my life! Granted, Sarah G goes about her discoveries in very different way than I went about mine, but it's been a wonderful journey to traipse through a comedic, but very sincere discovery of what it means to come together, come apart, and redefine relationships."

Big Noise Theatre Company's productions continue to be known for bringing Downtown quality to the suburbs at reasonable rates! Big Noise strives to produce high-quality shows that stretch the creative talents of their actors and staff as well as surpass the expectations of their audience.

Starring Sarah Sapperstein ( Chicago ), Ben Schneider ( Northfield ), Debra Rodkin ( Chicago ), Chuck Dribin ( Skokie ), Perry Georgopoulos ( Chicago ), and Toph Enany ( Chicago ) , Beau Jest will have you laughing and learning to appreciate family, regardless of ethnic persuasion.

Tickets for Beau Jest are $23 for Adults, $21 for Seniors and $16 for Kids 13 and under and can be purchased by going to www.bignoisetheatre.org or by calling 847-604-0275.
