Caveat History

Caveat is a 110-seat live show venue and bar on Clinton street in the lower east side. Find the street-level black door marked with a purple C just a couple doors south of Rizzo’s Pizza, head down a flight of stairs, and behind the purple curtain you’ll discover a spacious 5,000 square foot cabaret-style speakeasy theater, complete with a library nook, leather armchairs and wood panelling.

Written between 1930 and 1932, The Lady Macbeth of the Mtensk District was first performed in 1934 - and received a scathing write-up in the Pravda newspaper in 1936, due to its graphic sexual violence and murderous female lead.
