Carrollwood Cultural Center's Sounds of Swing will perform for the very first time at a dance for singles and couples of all ages on Saturday, January 22 from 7:30pm to 9:30pm.

Dance instruction will be available at 6:30pm for those interested in brushing up on basic Swing Dance steps.

The Carrollwood Cultural Center Sounds of Swing was formed in 2010 by Jim Burge, host of Jazz with Jim and a founding member of the Bay Area Saxophone Quartet.

"I was approached by several musicians about starting a swing band," said Burge, "That, coupled with the interest of several of our members for a social dance program really helped put momentum behind this initiative and we look forward to seeing where it goes."

The Center plans to schedule bi-monthly dances featuring the Sounds of Swing. Each month will have a different theme.

Swing music is a style of jazz that was played by popular big bands in the 1930's and has seen a resurgence in popularity since the 1990's.

The event will be held at the Carrollwood Cultural Center located at 4537 Lowell Road, Tampa 33618. Tickets are $10 for members and $15 for non-members and may be purchased online at www.carrollwoodcenter.org, at the box office, or by calling (813) 269-1310.
