New York City Center today announced programming for the 2019 - 2020 season, which will include Mack and Mabel (Feb 19-23), Kurt Weill's Love Life (March 18-22) directed by Victoria Clark, and a 'new version' of Thoroughly Modern Millie (May 6-10), featuring edits by the playwright Lauren Yee and led by 2018 Tony nominee Ashley Park.

The Miami City Ballet began its Friday Ballet across America evening with George Balanchine's Walpurgisnacht Ballet (1980), 'definitely the world according to Balanchine,' wrote Suzanne Farrell in her autobiography. The Miami ensemble got off to a ragged start, literally not up to speed, but once Principal Katia Carranza took the stage, in the role originated by Farrell, the ladies got with the program. Carranza combined necessary speed and technique with glorious attention to musical detail; every beat has been choreographed, and Carranza never missed one even if all she had to move was just a portion of an arm. Her cavalier, Rainer Krenstetter, added to his substantial elevation significant skill in landing--not only softly, but often exceptionally still. And by the time the Gounod score reached its feverish finish, the Corps de Ballet were at last working with the precision required for the final wedge formation; Balanchine's final image requires absolute solidity from the Corps as backdrop so that the sensational to the shoulder lift of Carranza by Krenstetter contains the power it's meant to.

Harlem One Stop today announced a free special Memorial Day Weekend concert by The 369th Experience in celebration of the Harlem Renaissance Centennial and the Harlem Hell Fighters. The ensemble will perform a program of music by ragtime and early jazz bandleader James Reese Europe. The free outdoor performance will be presented from 7:00-8:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 25 at Marcus Garvey Park (Mt. Morris Park West between East 120th-124th Streets) in Harlem.

Actor/Conductor Damon Gupton guest hosts an upcoming episode of the hit NPR weekly music program From the Top, airing nationally during the week of May 6 on participating stations and by podcast. The episode, which features America's best young classical musicians, was taped before a live audience at Interlochen Center for the Arts in March 2019. On the broadcast, Mr. Gupton interviews the young musicians, all students at the Interlochen Arts Academy, and conducts a performance by the Interlochen Arts Academy Orchestra. The New Brunswick Performing Arts Center (NBPAC), City of New Brunswick, and George Street Playhouse today announced The Elizabeth Ross Johnson Theater and The Arthur Laurents Theater named after two George Street Playhouse benefactors. The $7.75 million in gifts, the largest in George Street Playhouse history, strengthens NBPAC as the premier center for the performing arts. NBPAC, a $172 million redevelopment initiative that will transform New Brunswick's Downtown Cultural Arts District, opens its doors to the public this fall.

9th Annual St. Louis Teen Talent Competition Chooses 15 High School Acts for Final Event

On Saturday, March 9th, 45 metro area high school acts competed in the Semi-final round of the 9th Annual St. Louis Teen Talent Competition.  St. Louis performing arts professionals judged the performances and narrowed the field to 15 acts (24 individuals) who will move on to the finals on Saturday, April 13th at 8pm at The Fabulous Fox Theatre (a list of acts can be found here).  In addition to the thrill of performing on the Fox Stage, contestants are eligible to win college scholarships, prizes and performance opportunities.  'We couldn't be happier with the level of talent. The students seem to get better and better each year,' exclaimed Mary Strauss, Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation Board President Emeritus.  The final competition is a professionally produced production that is FREE and open to the public.  General Admission tickets are required and available now at no charge at The Fabulous Fox box office and through Metrotix.

TCU's SCCDance Announces Debra Austin Residency With Community Opportunities For Participation

Texas Christian University is honored to announce that renowned American ballerina Debra Austin will visit the campus April 14-18, 2019 as the Cecil H. and Ida Green Honors Chair to participate in a ballet residency rooted in partnership with the TCU School for Classical & Contemporary Dance (SCCDance). Praised by The New York Times for her ability to "levitate… and remain suspended in the air," Austin will lead students, faculty, and community members through a curated program during the five-day residency featuring master classes, community events, a special Q&A that is free and open to the public, as well as cross-departmental collaborations and workshops.

A&A BALLET (A&A), under the artistic direction of Anna Reznik and Alexei Kremnev, has announced the principal casting for 'Sleeping Beauty,' which will be performed at Chicago's Studebaker Theatre (410 S. Michigan Ave), May 4, 2019 at 2 p.m. and 7p.m. The production will star A&A BALLET Youth Company Member and 2019 Youth America Grand Prix honoree Trinity Santoro as Princess Aurora during the matinee staging, A&A BALLET Youth Company Member and recipient of American Ballet Theater's National Scholarship Grace Curry as Princess Aurora at the evening performance and BalletMet company member Michael Sayre as the Prince at both performances.

Lincoln's Community Conversations Series Explores The African Diaspora In Dance

African-Americans have used dance to tell their story, assert their identity, and express their unique creativity. Folk dance, popular dance crazes, and the high arts have all been unquestionably influenced by our genetic muscle memory of African movement. Facilitated by a local panel of speakers, this Community Conversations event will explore "Katherine Dunham to Misty Copeland - The African Diaspora in Dance." The panel will include China White, former ballerina with Dance Theatre of Harlem, and members of Thiossane West African Dance Institute.
