Ten Thousand Things (TTT) has announced Caitlin Lowans' first season as Artistic Director: Two Gents, William Shakespeare's rip-roaring comedy, directed by Lowans; Men on Boats, a brilliant satire by Jaclyn Backhaus, directed by Joy Dolo; and Most Happy Fella, Frank Loesser's beautiful musical and the second musical TTT ever performed, directed by Lowans.

Summer theatre in Sacramento is something I look forward to with unbridled anticipated every year. Outdoor dining at a locally owned restaurant followed by a fabulous show downtown is one of my favorite ways to spend a summer evening. Luckily, we have no shortage of shows to choose from, and I’m going to share some of my favorite picks of the coming months.

LITTLE WOMEN, the musical based on the 1869 novel of the same name written by Louisa May Alcott, is currently running at CAP Merrick through April 27th. The production truly captures the heart and soul of the widely-celebrated source material. Please note, the following review comes from two viewings of this production as an effort to catch as much of the cast as possible. 

South Florida Symphony Orchestra will present an adventurous Valentine's Day program featuring three orchestra premieres, headlined by the return of R. Strauss' Don Juan. Led by SFSO's award-winning music director Sebrina María Alfonso and featuring soprano Amy Shoremount-Obra, the concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, February 14, at the Tennessee Williams Theatre at The College of the Florida Keys.

Celebrate love in all its dramatic, poetic, erotic, scandalous and insatiable forms as South Florida Symphony Orchestra (SFSO) will present an adventurous Valentine’s Day weekend program featuring three orchestra premieres, headlined by the return of R. Strauss’ Don Juan.  

See the Norwegian National Ballet dancers shine in Don Quixote – a Spanish-inspired classical ballet that is technically demanding, a bit silly and packed with romance and warmth.

Someone at the Met should have been giving out flu shots (before RFK Junior makes them illegal), because something is obviously going around the cast of the new AIDA. They should have handed out a scorecard to help the audience keep track of who-was-who.

Lauren Gunderson's adaptation of LITTLE WOMEN has been co-commissioned by four theatres, bringing a fresh take on the classic novel to the stage. Learn more about the productions.

In a unique creative partnership, four regional theaters have jointly commissioned playwright Lauren Gunderson to adapt the classic novel Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. This new theatrical work will  enjoy a “rolling” world premiere with four independent productions occurring between 2024- 2026 in each of the partnering theaters' home locale.

The Aizuri Quartet has released a new album, Earthdrawn Skies, on June 30, 2023 on Azica Records.

The Ephrata Performing Arts Center (EPAC) will present one of Stephen Sondheim's lesser known, yet highly esteemed and polarizing works, Passion from April 27th through May 13th. This production serves as the second installment in EPAC's season-long tribute to the late, great, Stephen Sondheim.

The track features arrangements by trombone player Steve Davis, and follows the first single and video, “Come On, Aphrodite”—featuring Abena Koomson-Davis—from Merchant’s forthcoming album Keep Your Courage. Produced by Merchant, Keep Your Courage is the artist’s ninth solo studio album, and the latest new material since 2014’s self-titled record.

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that Andrew Lloyd Webber has been chosen to compose King Charles III's Coronation Anthem.

It is the first track released from Merchant’s forthcoming album, Keep Your Courage, and establishes the record’s themes of love and passion as essential to the human experience. Merchant’s ninth solo studio album, and the latest new material since 2014’s self-titled record, Keep Your Courage will be released in April.

Superstars of Malian music with an illustrious career spanning more than 40 years, Amadou & Mariam will headline venerable U.S. venues such as Miner Auditorium @ SF JAZZ, Le Poisson Rouge (NYC), 9:30 Club (Wash. DC), and others from March 14 - 25, 2023.

Prokofiev's opera War & Peace will be presented on 28 January 2023 by the internationally renowned Catalan opera director Calixto Bieito in a joint production between the Hungarian State Opera and the Grand Théâtre de Genève.
